Digimap Ordnance Survey Collection - Data Download
The Data Download facility in Digimap’s Ordnance Survey Collection allows quick and easy download of multiple Ordnance Survey map data products.
You can order multiple map data products for more than one area in the same order. All data is free, but there are Terms and Conditions that cover the use of the map data.

You can search for your area of interest either by panning and zooming around the main map, or you can use the Search to enter a placename, postcode or OS Grid Reference.
You can define your download area by selecting one of the four options on the left hand side.
Use Draw Rectangle to draw a rectangle with the cursor on the map.
Use Select Visible Area to download data for the entire area shown on your map.
Use Coordinates and Use Tile Name allow you to use British National Grid references to select your download area.

The map data products available through Data Download are grouped into a number of themes.
These can be expanded by clicking on the small plus symbol:
There are two layers of OS MasterMap vector data available from Digimap. OS MasterMap is provided in GML format.
Topography provides the most detailed available mapping of GB including individual building outlines and is often used for site planning.
Integrated Transport Network maps Great Britain’s road network and can be used for route planning.
To order any product, check the box next to it.

Background mapping contains raster map data, provided in TIFF image format. These can be very useful as background maps to which you can overlay other datasets.
They range in scale from very large scale (lots of detail) raster maps of OS MasterMap to small scale
(relatively less detail) maps that cover the whole of Great Britain.
Click the blue information button to get more details of any map dataset, including scale, format(s) and the default version. Different map versions can be selected under Options, once you have added map data products to your Basket.

Land and Height provides map data products that primarily depict some aspect of terrain or height, such as contours.
PROFILE Contours provides contours at 5metre intervals and spot heights.
PANORAMA Contours are at a smaller scale, with contours at 10metre intervals.
DTM datasets are primarily used for 3D representations of terrain.
All of the Land and Height map data products are provided as vector map data; available formats vary but include ASC, DXF and NTF. Profile and Panorama DTM products may also be downloaded in
TIFF image format.

Vector datasets are any map data products that contain the points, lines and polygons of individual features. These datasets need to be used in a GIS or CAD system.
The Vector Data category has Data Download has 5 vector map datasets for download:
The formats vary between datasets, but include,
SHAPE, GML2, TAB, DXF, MIF/MID and NTF. You can select from different formats (where available), under Options, once you have added map datasets to your Basket.

Boundary-Line – administrative boundaries of GB, including county and electoral boundaries.
Code-Point – GB postcode listings, with geographic coordinates.
Code-Point with Polygons – postcode unit boundaries.
OS Locator – GB road name gazetteer.
1:50000 Scale Gazetteer – place name database of GB, with 260,000 entries.

Beside each product there will be an indication of the "Allowance". This is the number of tiles or size of area that you can download in one order.
We have set these limits so that:
1.
Our system can process user requests as quickly as possible.
2.
Users do not inadvertently take more data that they are able to deal with.
If your selected area means that you exceed the Allowance, the allowance is displayed in red:
When you exceed the allowance, you will have to select a smaller area or select a different map dataset:

There is lots of detail in the Digimap Help pages on how to use the data in various GIS and CAD packages.
When you download vector data, we include a help page that gives you pointers on using the data.
This Digimap help page details software to convert vector data to different formats (NOTE: this may not be required, it will be dependent on your software and the map data you are using): http://digimap.edina.ac.uk/webhelp/os/data_information/data_formats/new_data_translators.htm

Your download file is a zip archive. You need to Extract the contents of the zip archive to use the map data.
In Windows this is achieved by right-clicking the data and selecting Extract All:
The download file contains a sub-folder for each map product in your order.
You will also find two text files:
Contents_order…txt contains details of your order, including the geographic coordinates of your order area.
Citations_orders…txt contains a citation for each map product that you ordered, which you can copy and paste to your bibliography.

Within the sub-folders you will find your map data, plus a text file containing the Conditions of use for the map data.
You are responsible for checking that you are complying with the terms of use for any data you download from Digimap.
Data downloaded from Data Download will be covered by one of two licences – please ensure you know which licence covers your data and that you understand the terms of use:
Digimap licence, use of the data is strictly for educational use: http://digimap.edina.ac.uk/webhelp/os/copyright/licence_faqs.htm

What do the different statuses mean?
Processing
The order is still being processed by the EDINA servers. You will need to wait for the second email with the download link. If you want to reorder the same data with different options, such as the
Version or Format, download the original order first then return to My Previous Downloads.
Ready
Your data is now available to download. Check your inbox for the email with the link to your data. If you have accidentally deleted the email click Resend Email.
A pop-up will confirm that the email has been resent to your email address. Remember you can change your email address at the bottom of the My Previous Downloads window.
Collected
You have downloaded the data already; click View & Re-order to re-order the original data or reorder with changes.
Expired
You didn't collect the data before the 3 day limit expired. Click View & Reorder to re-order the original data or re-order with changes.
April 2013 17
Digimap Ordnance Survey Collection - Data Download
When you click View & Reorder, you will be able to see the order contents in the middle section of the My Previous Downloads window:
Re-order the same data
If you just need the same data again then simply click the Reorder button below the details and a new identical order will be created. You can rename your download (optional):

Removing unwanted products from the order
By un-checking the box at the end of a product's details you can remove it from the reorder. Once you have removed the unwanted products, click the Reorder button to request the products that you do want.
Getting the latest version or a different format for your data
If there is a newer version or different format of the data available then you will see a Change link in the Options column. Click the link to open the options panel where you will be able to select a newer version of the data, change the format and change the layers.
Click Save & Continue to save your changes:
NOTE: If you want an older version of your data you will need to create a new order. If you downloaded the original order, you received a text file named Contents_Order_****.txt. This file
states the bounding box (geographical coordinates) of your original order area.
You can use these values to make a new selection in Use Coordinates in Step 1.

Reordering a retired dataset
If you are reordering data and notice the warning symbol next to a product then its version, format or certain layers no longer exist.
We try to maintain all the datasets for as long as possible. However some datasets required too much storage space and we cannot keep multiple versions. Data formats can change from year to year. To make it possible to reorder your data you will need to Change the Options that are no longer available or remove the product entirely from the order.
Rename your Download
Once you have viewed the order details and made any changes necessary you can rename your download. If you aren't making any changes then you probably won't need to do this, however if you do then we would strongly recommend making a change so you can differentiate between the reorder and the original.
