USA Engagement in WW2 1945 August 6th: Use of Atomic Bomb New US President, Harry S. Truman, allows the use of atomic bomb in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan. On August 15th, the emperor of Japan surrenders. 45 November 28th: Operation Overlord Tehran Conference: Agreement between USA, Great Britain, and USSR about a planned invasion of Europe. 44 April 20th: Atomic Bomb 1st atomic bomb signed into agreement by Winston Churchill and President Roosevelt. 43 February 19th: Executive Order 9066 President Roosevelt confines 110,000 Japanese Americans, including 75,000 citizens, on the West Coast into relocation camps. 42 41 December 7th: Attack of Pearl Harbor Japanese fighter planes launch surprise attack on the United States. Sailors and marines perished and several naval ships were lost or damaged. June 3rd: USA aids in war US approves a sale of surplus war material to Great Britain. Sep. 1st: War is Triggered Germany invades Poland with the Blitzkrieg March 1st: Invasion of Germany Us troops cross Rhine River in Germany. Two weeks later, bombers attach Berlin. June 6th: Normandy Day/D-Day Allied troops begin the invasion of Europe in France, with air and naval bombardment, suppressing Hitler’s “Fortress Europe”. July 19th: Invasion of Italy Rome is bombed on July 19th and US and British forces conquer Sicily on August 17th. April 4th: Battle of Midway First major Japanese defeat in the war, against the US military.
