Biographical Dress Up & Speech-May 29, 2015 Directions: 1. Read an autobiography or biography book about your influential or famous person from history. Due: 4/24/15 2. Use research tools such as: Fact Monster (or other reliable website) and the biography to search for more information about your person. Use the Historical Person graphic organizer to help organize your research notes. Graphic organizer should be completed. Due: 4/24/15 3. Make an invitation for family and friends giving the date, time, and location of the Wax Museum. This will be done in art class. Due 5/1/15. 4. Prepare a 5 paragraph essay according to the Written Report form. Due 5/15/15. 5. Prepare a speech that can be said during the Wax Museum performance. This is a separate assignment than the report. Your speech should be at least 1 paragraph long, detailing the most important facts about your historical person. It should be written in first person narrative form. Due 5/22/15. 6. Create a costume that represents the type of clothing your famous person would have worn. You do not have to bring it to school until the performance day. Due: 5/22/15. 7. Bring a “prop” that symbolizes an important event in the person’s life. You may bring more than one, though you only have the space on your desk to display them. You do not have to bring to school until the performance day. Due: 5/22/15. 8. Make a name plate that correctly spells the person’s full name, correct birth date, place of birth, and when applicable date of death. You will be working on this in art class. Due 5/22/15. 9. Memorize your speech (not the report). Practice performing your speech using feeling and emotion. Speak with expression and gestures as if you were the historical person doing the talking. Dress Rehearsal: Due 5/22/15. Written Report: Biography Directions: The written report must be FIVE paragraphs in length and include a Works Cited Page containing at least TWO sources. The first source must be a book (the biography). The second source must be a reliable website. We will work on this in writing class. Written Report Due: 5/15/15 The FIRST paragraph is the introduction and should include: • The person’s name • When and where the person was born • A brief family history The SECOND paragraph contains information about the person’s early life and/or early adult years. This paragraph may include: • Information about the person’s childhood • Data prior to the person becoming famous • Interesting facts about growing up The THIRD paragraph describes the important/influential reason(s) the person became famous and why they are significant. The FOURTH paragraph explains why/how the person has affected history. • What contributions did he/she make to our world? • How did their actions/contributions change or affect others? • How would life/history be different if the person had never been born? • Are there any monuments, holidays, statues, etc. that honor this person? The FIFTH and final paragraph is the conclusion. It describes: • Why did you choose to learn about this person? • What did you learn about the person that you didn’t already know? • Why did you find this person interesting? Some ideas to help guide your research of your historical person are listed below: • Marriage/Family • Education/Graduation/Career • Contributions to society • Speeches/Elections • Battles/Championships • Problems or challenges faced Speech (Oral Presentation) The speech should be at least 1 paragraph long and should be written in first person form. You should include only the most important details in your oral presentation speech, because you will be asked to memorize the speech for the presentation. You are invited to… What: Living Wax Museum Student Presentations When: Monday, June 3, 2013 Where: Osceola Mills Elementary School- Third grade classrooms Time: 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Directions: Stop at any “wax figure” and push his/her button to see the famous person come to life with a dramatic performance highlighting the figure’s life and contributions to history. The Living Wax Museum project involved conducting research, reading biographies, writing an informative report, script writing, creating a display, and, finally, working on the wax museum characters’ costume, props, and oral presentation.
