Kid’s Pottery Lessons Registration Each week I offer a different cultural or historical theme-based pottery lesson. We will do hand-building and wheel throwing. Classes are in my professional pottery studio in Newcastle, ME. Class sizes are small (8 Max students). All work will be glazed and fired in a kiln and returned in about 3 weeks. The work if appropriate will be dinnerware and dishwasher safe. Cost $90 per class Ages 5 and up Week 1 June 24-26* Tue-Thu class Ancient Greek Week Build a Greek Temples, design your own column vase and make Greek Pottery Vessels. Week 2 July 7-9 Mon-Wed Viking Week Create a Viking sailing vessel, sea-dragon and Viking warrior. Week 3 July 14-July 16Mon-Wed Fashion Week Make portraits in clay with fun hair styles, and create accessories, pendants and buttons to adorn yourself. Week4 July 21-July 23 Mon-Wed Ancient Egypt Week Make a mummy case, canopic jar and scarab beetles all decorated in hieroglyphics Week 5 July 28-July 30 Mon-Wed Medieval Week Create a castle; build a knight or a princess and a medieval serving tray that you can actually use. Week 6 Aug 18-Aug20 Mon-Wed Asian Week Create ceremonial teapots, tea bowls, sushi dish; all can be decorated in traditional Sumi-brush style. Liz Proffetty holds a degree in ceramics from Maine College of Art and K-12 Art Certification for Education from Norwich University. She has worked as a professional potter for Damariscotta Pottery for 18 years and has taught art and ceramics at Lincoln Academy, Litchfield Schools and lessons from her home studio based in Newcastle, ME. She is passionate about clay and teaching and enjoys combining her years of experiences working with clay with helping her students find personal success in their art-making.
