POTTERY I INSTRUCTOR: KAREN HJORT-JENSEN NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED. Instruction is based on the needs of each student. Introduces first time students to the pleasures of working with clay, and encourages more experienced students to hone their skills and develop a personal style Tools available. Bring your own tools if you have them. Wear old clothes or bring a coverall or apron. Beginners: Hand-building: several techniques including pinch pots, slab, coil, joining, pulling handles, and finishing. Students have the choice to continue to develop hand building skills and techniques for the balance of the course. Wheel instruction includes centering, opening, thinning walls, differences in technique between cylinders, bowls, & plates, trimming, attaching handles, etc. Students will have plenty of opportunity to practice on the wheel up to and including week 6 of the course. Introduction to decorating and glazing techniques. Intermediate and returning students: Individual instruction is student-driven based on expectations. Projects could include functional items such as teapots, casserole dishes, plates, vases, etc. Throughout the term a variety of surface decorating and finishing techniques will be introduced. _________________________________________________________________________________________________ Pottery Studio Memberships $100 per term Students who have taken a pottery course can use our facilities to create their own pottery pieces. Access to the studio is Mon-Friday from 10-5 and when evening classes are running. Membership access is on a term basis. Gold Pottery Membership: $80 + one workshop; Elite Pottery Membership: $75 + Intermediate Pottery 10 week course Pottery Date Nights: Explore something new together! Come try your hand at one of our potter`s wheels alongside someone special. Share a special moment while learning the basic techniques in throwing a pot. $50 per couple (we will fire and glaze your pottery for $10 per piece extra)
