MISS STANLEY’S NEWSLETTER December 7 - 11, 2015 Dear Parents, The weeks leading up to our winter break are always hectic. I will do my best to keep you all informed. Please check with your child when they leave the house in the morning to make sure they have a coat. If your child does not bring a hat and/or gloves, I have some that they can borrow. Thanks for all you do! Miss Stanley UPCOMING EVENTS December 18: School Movie December 18: Classroom Christmas Party December 18: End of the Second Nine Weeks December 21-January 4: No School/Winter Break Don’t forget that the grade school has a drop off box for Toys for Tots!! AR/Book Cart Books I love that students are reading more chapter books. Second grade is a when students transition from picture books to chapter books. There are chapter books in upper levels, but students really enjoy checking out harder books. When we take home books from my book cart, I want the book in their AR level. I don’t mind if they check out a little harder books from the library, but I try not to let them get too hard. I also wanted to say that it takes some students a long time to read a chapter book when they are reading 15 minutes a night. That can make AR tests more difficult to pass. Don’t hesitate to review with your child at the end of the book. Ask them about the characters. Have them tell you about the problem in the book and/or details they remember. Gift Exchange REMINDER : We will exchange gifts on December 18th at our Winter Celebration. Girls will exchange with girls and boys will exchange with boys. Please keep gifts between $3-$5.
