All of the following three criteria must be met to qualify for consideration: It must located within the ICE North West region: Cumbria, Cheshire, Lancashire, Isle of Man, Greater Manchester, Merseyside The work of civil engineering is at least 70 years old It must still be extant (though not necessarily operational or in working order) It is of cultural and/or historical significance and/or is or was a remarkable work of civil engineering in its own right Historical or cultural significance might depend on any one or more of the following factors (or other factors deemed to be of comparable significance): Its innovation at the time of its design or construction Its wide usage over time Its impact on lifestyle, culture, history and/or the economy or economic development Its association with a significant historical event or significant person The fact that it has become widely recognised The fact that it has achieved listed status, or is being considered for the award of some heritage status The fact that it has become a rare extant example of its kind The work may be considered to constitute remarkable civil engineering on the same grounds as other ICE North West Awards, and/or because it holds some particular status (it’s one of the tallest, widest, heaviest, oldest examples of its kind, or made early use of a particular technique, etc). Anyone can send us a nomination for the ICE North West Civil Engineering Heritage Award, it is open to members and non-members alike.
