JOB TITLE: Deputy Headteacher
LOCATION: Havercroft Junior, Infants and Nursery School
GRADE/SALARY: L9-L13
JOB DESCRIPTION: We are seeking to appoint an outstanding teacher to the post of Deputy Head
Teacher at Havercroft Junior, Infants and Nursery School. We are looking for a senior leader, able to contribute
significantly to our rapidly improving school, who will work in partnership with the newly appointed
Headteacher. The ability to lead within a distributed leadership ethos, with leadership skills that motivate and
inspire staff and pupils to achieve the highest standards, having recent experience in a leadership team, with a
proven track record of improving outcomes for children. Our school has huge potential, a diverse and engaged
community and children who are a delight to teach.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership:

To take a strategic lead on developing partnerships with
parents, governors and outside agencies

To work in partnership with the Headteacher to continue
to develop and embed the vision and ethos of the school
and its strategic direction

To support subject leaders in their work throughout the
school and to lead the development of teaching and
learning

To promote excellence and enjoyment throughout the
curriculum

Construct strategic improvement plans which focus on
improved outcomes for all groups of children, with an
emphasis on those with Special Needs and Disabilities
(SEND), children who speak English as an Additional
Language (EAL) and the most vulnerable in receipt of the
Pupil Premium

To support the Headteacher in the strategic management
of the school, including school self-evaluation, the
identification of strategic priorities, and the production and
implementation of the school improvement plan

To deputise for the Headteacher as required, including any
safeguarding and Child Protection (CP) duties

To be an outstanding teacher who will share expertise with
others
To keep confidential pupil records up to date and to
ensure that the relevant outside agencies, parents, school
leaders and teachers are always informed of changes to
planned provision and pupils’ records wherever
appropriate

Evaluate and record the impact of teaching and learning,
providing high quality feedback, coaching and mentoring of staff

In collaboration with the Senior Leadership Team, to raise
standards of teaching and learning in the classroom across
the whole school
To support colleagues and ensure all new staff are
appropriately inducted

To lead on Inclusion across the school, liaising with the Children
Centre’s SENCO wherever necessary

To take a strategic lead on assessment, data collection and
analysis throughout the school

To be an exemplar of the highest professional standards

To lead or support colleagues with new initiatives as they arise

To work with the Headteacher and other senior managers to
maintain a productive and inspiring learning environment that will
enable all members of the school community to achieve their
best

To promote and support inclusive practice

To play a key role in the preparation for our next Ofsted
inspection
Management:

To contribute to the performance management of teachers and
support staff and to coordinate staff CPD in accordance with any
agreed targets set during this process

To construct and monitor timetables and staff communication

To undertake other reasonable duties at the request of the
Headteacher



High level graduate
Evidence of continued professional development
Experience:
You will be an excellent teacher and a highly credible and
strong communicator with a passion for your subject
Competencies:

Leadership

personal drive and example instil vision and build enthusiasm and
commitment to implement well defined strategies. Pursue longterm goals with energy and tenacity, whilst setting the highest

A minimum prerequisite of middle management
responsibility, or AST role, with a track record or raising
levels of attainment underpinned by a clear understanding
of the levers for achieving success

Evidence of successful leadership and management which
will probably include experience as a senior manager,
phase manager or core subject leader

Understanding of how children learn in Foundation Stage,
KS1 and KS2 including children with SEN

Experience of developing partnerships with parents and
the wider school community including governors and

outside agencies.

Communication
Successful experience in using the most innovative
applications of data and understanding of the latest
pedagogy


information in an appropriate and effective manner.
Experience in the design and implementation of initiatives
for the raising of attainment and the enhancement of
teaching and learning

Direct experience of Ofsted inspection from at least a
middle management perspective
