YEAR TWO YEAR GROUP LEADER JOB PROFILE Core purpose As a year group leader to share in and support the leadership of the school To take a lead in the policies and practices of continuous school improvement and staff development in relation to the EYFS and Year one. To constantly seek strategies to improve and develop policy and practice. KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY 1. Class teacher Part 10 of the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document 2010 (standard for all teachers). 2. Strategic direction and development of the EYFS In collaboration with the headteacher to formulate the aims and objectives of the year group and policies for their implementation To manage the budget allocated to the year group. EYFS Leader: To work closely with the admin staff to ensure that admissions and induction arrangements to the EYFS work smoothly To keep up to date with currentpolicy and practice issues; share this with staff and take appropriate action to improve provision where appropriate. To work in partnership with the headteacher in the cycle of planning, implementation, review and evaluation of the School Development Plan To monitor and evaluate the impact of the policies, practices, targets and priorities in the EYFS and year one, identifying developments needed and working with the staff team to achieve them. 3. Teaching and Learning To be an outstanding role model for all staff To have a class responsibility for a year two class (from September 2013) To lead the year group team in the delivery of a creative and stimulating curriculum To be instrumental in the development of high quality teaching and learning including the monitoring of curriculum planning, giving feedback and advice and assisting and supporting colleagues with the planning and delivery of a differentiated curriculum To ensure that all the children are able to learn and achieve to the best of their ability To ensure that the requirements of the National Curriculum including arrangements for assessment and moderation are met To seek ways of sharing good practice and to ensure that there is ongoing professional dialogue about teaching and learning amongst school staff To ensure curricular policy development is focussed on continuous school improvement. 4. Leadership and Management To share in and support the leadership of the school and to bring out the potential for leadership in others To work in partnership and fully support the headteacher in the implementation of school policies and practices and in the development of the school To challenge and support others in developing professionally, both formally and informally To support the headteacher in the performance management of staff To act as a mentor to staff where appropriate and to organise induction of new staff to the team To help lead the school through external accreditations To ensure own continuing professional development including attending training To organise the day to day running of the year group ensuring the efficient management of school resources To organise and lead INSET for staff and workshops for parents/guardians as appropriate To work with the Leadership Team to present an accurate and coherent account of the school’s performance to a range of audiences, enabling them to play their part effectively To be able to stimulate children and colleagues by a positive, active and supportive attitude To liaise with colleagues in order to ensure the successful transition of all pupils from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2. 5. Pastoral Care To promote and safeguard the welfare of all children To promote self-discipline, high standards of behaviour and positive attitudes on the part of all children; to implement policies and procedures to foster them both on the school premises and when they are engaged in school activities elsewhere in line with the School Behaviour Policy. Ensure that all children are safe, healthy, enjoy and achieve. Ensure that a high standard of care and good order for all children is maintained. 6. Communication and Community Links To fully support the life and work of the school To establish a working relationship with The BRIT School that supports and enhances the curriculum To develop and maintain positive and effective professional relationships with colleagues, parents, the local community and Governors To develop and maintain links with the LA Advisory and Support Services To provide information to the Governing Body to enable it to meet its responsibilities To ensure that parents and pupils are well informed about the curriculum and are able to understand and contribute to targets for improvement. 7. OTHER Working to support the vision and ethos of the school at all times. Take a lead on a curricular area as agreed with the Head teacher. Have due regard to the school’s policy on equal opportunities. Taking/attending assemblies. To perform, in accordance with any direction which may be reasonably given by the Head teacher, any duties that may reasonably be assigned. PERSON SPECIFICATION FOR A YEAR GROUP LEADER Essential Criteria: 1. Knowledge and Experience Successful experience of working in a team and able to exemplify team leadership. Knowledge and understanding of Early Years/KS1 in order to lead year 2 with a confidence that will command the respect of colleagues, governors and parents and the wider community. Excellent knowledge of theory and practice in providing child-centred education, e.g. classroom organisation, assessment for learning, thinking skills etc. Understanding of inclusive education to ensure that classroom organisation and practices do not discriminate. Knowledge of strategies which are necessary to promote purposeful and successful learning and progress. Have the knowledge and skills to lead a significant area of the school. An outstanding track record of securing high attainment and achievement in a primary school. 2. Skills and abilities The ability to provide an excellent early years education in her/his own practice. The ability to build a team and lead them to produce work of an outstanding standard. A strong personal commitment to equality of opportunity and social justice with the ability to demonstrate the implementation of this commitment in her/his personal and professional lives. Excellent communication skills, orally and in writing (including technology). The skills required to develop excellent links with parents as partners in their children’s education. The ability to make a significant contribution to the development of the whole school through membership of the SLT. The ability to analyse data in order to draw appropriate conclusions and then apply them to improve practice. A clear understanding of health and safety issues, including those related to safeguarding. 3. Personal Qualities Have a clear philosophy of education.
