AS French What will I study? You will build upon your existing skills in speaking, writing, listening and reading French. Your aims are to increase your vocabulary and to be more accurate with your grammar. During the AS year, we will be using wide range of materials – music, video, newspaper articles, as well as the course book and the accompanying grammar book. You will be able to borrow an Edexcel coursebook and a grammar workbook by the beginning of the Autumn term, with a small deposit. These will be essential materials for the AS French course. Please ensure that you have,ready for September A good bilingual French/ English dictionary A wide file and a pack of dividers. A hardback vocabulary notebook. What do I need to do during the holidays? Grammar A Before you start, make sure you know the meaning of the following words to talk about grammar: Noun, adjective, adverb, article, infinitive Write 3 examples of each. B Do the exercises related to these topics using either sites 1. Revise your present tenses –er, -ir, -re verbs. Make sure you know how to spell the endings. 2. Revise the passé composé with avoir and with être. 3. Revise the irregular past participles. 4. Revise the following irregular verbs in the present tense: avoir, être, faire, aller, pouvoir, vouloir, devoir, savoir. Vocabulary Attached are some sheets to help you revise. We will talk about this text and answer questions in September. Writing How are you spending your holiday? Write a diary for 3 days of your holiday – they don’t have to be consecutive days. Write about 100 words for each day. Use a mix of tenses, and be as descriptive as possible. You need to hand this in at the start of the course. Speaking Prepare a short presentation in French (approx 2 mins) about yourself.
