You Said: We Did:
Following analysis of the results of the 2011 Staff Survey,
priorities for action were identified by the
School of Psychology
These areas from the Staff Survey
were identified as needing action:
1. Address issues around bullying and
harassment
2. Improve the induction process
3. Continue to improve the number
of staff receiving probation and
appraisal reviews
What we’ve done so far:
All sectors of staff were consulted via
meetings with the HoS and invited to make
suggestions for improvements in reporting
any instances. The message that the School
does not condone any form of bullying or
harassment was reiterated via these
meetings. Staff have been reminded of the
procedures available for reporting bullying or
harassment and that support will be provided
throughout the process.
The new HoS meets with all new appointees
at RA level and above as part of the
enhanced induction process. There is a new
senior member of staff with the portfolio for
Personal and Professional Development.
She is arranging interviews with all staff who
have been through the induction process in
the last two years to identify areas for
improvement. The induction booklet is being
revised to include signposts to further
information sources arising from findings
from the interviews.
The School continues to strive to meet its
objective of achieving total compliance with
annual appraisal and probation reviews.
Probation reviews are monitored monthly
and line managers reminded of any due.
Appraisals of academic and research staff
have slipped slightly owing to the
changeover of Heads of School, but this is
now being addressed. The transition from
Compel to CORE is also placing a strain
(training requirements) on the time support
staff can devote to identifying noncompliance and encouraging staff to meet
completion expectations.
