Holocaust Book Bag Projects - Due February 20, 2015 This project will show your knowledge of the Holocaust as well as give your evaluation of a Holocaust book of your choice. You may choose to do the project on The Devils Arithmetic, Night, Anne Frank, Prisoner B-3087, or any other Holocaust book of your choice. Kentucky Core Academic Standards: RL.7.2, RL.7.3, RI.7.2, RI.7.3, RL.7.4, W.7.1, W.7.2, W.7.7, W.7.8, L.7.3, and SL.7.2 Materials: 4 Paper Lunch Bag, 4 ½” X 6” colored paper (cut in advance), glue, scissors, stapler, 7 – 4X6” index cards, yarn You will use the front and back of each paper bag to illustrate different aspects of the book. The index cards will be used inside each bag to give specific written descriptions/information about the book. Front Cover: Title and author of book with an illustration/picture of your choice that represents the book. Page 2: (inside of cover page): Setting – Draw or find a picture that represents some part of the setting for your book. On the index card, explain what the picture is of, and why it is important to the book’s story. Page 3: Research something about the Holocaust. Glue a picture that represents your research on this page. Write a short report, (only one index card) to go inside this bag. Page 4: About the Author – Illustration or picture of the author. Write a short report about the author giving important information about their life, other written works. Etc. Page 5: Theme – Glue a picture of something that you think represents the theme of the book you have chosen. On the index card give specific evidence from the text that supports your theme. Page 6: Internal and External Conflict: On this page glue a picture/illustration that represents and example internal and external conflict presented in the book by one or more of the characters. On the index card inside give your evidence explaining the internal and external conflict examples. Page 7: Figurative Language/Literary Techniques: Identify two examples of figurative language or literary techniques. (Hyperbole, Idiom, Imagery, Metaphor/simile, Personification, Symbol, Irony, Foreshadowing, Flashback) Represent one or both in the picture on this page. On the index card list and explain your examples of figurative language. Page 8: (Back Cover) Give a picture/illustration of a way you connected with this book. On the index card, explain how this book has influenced you and how it connects to your life. Scoring Guide for Holocaust Book Bag Project 1. The project requirements are met all pages are designed as directed and each has the required information included on a pull out index card…… 10 points per card X 7 cards… 70 points 2. Each picture page completed with required drawing/illustration or picture… 10 points each… 80 points 3. Correct grammar, usage and mechanics are used….. 10 points 4. Design graphics, pictures, diagrams and/or illustrations are clear/attractive 20 points 20 points 5.
