Objective: We will discover the Five Themes of Geography and be able to identify
each theme as well as provide real world examples for each.
Product/Task: I will write a reflection of the story from a different point of view.
Activity:
 Open – Journal: How would you describe where you live to someone who has
never been to Texas?
 PowerPoint: “Five Themes of Geography” Notes
 Close –Reflection: In order to find an absolute location on the Earth’s surface,
which “imaginary lines” must be used?
Assessment: Be able to name each of the five themes
High Level Questions: How can humans both negatively and positively impact our
environment through the human-environment relationships you learned about today?
Homework: None
Wednesday 9/5
Objective: We will be able to identify the Five Themes of Geography and provide real
world examples for each.
I will / Product/Task: I will compare places and regions of Texas in terms of physical
and human characteristics. I will know the major eras of Texas history and be able to
describe their defining characteristics.
Activity:
 Open – Journal: Why do you think areas are divided into regions? What point is
there to doing this?
 Complete “Five Themes of Geography” Notes
 Begin video – “Texas, The Big Picture”
 Close –Reflection: What are the four natural regions of Texas?
Assessment: Completed notes and reflections
High Level Questions: Why do historians divide the past into eras?

Thursday 9/6
Objective: We will locate the Mountains & Basins, Great Plains, North Central Plains,
and Coastal Plains regions along with major cities, rivers, natural and historic landmarks,
and local points of interest.

 Open – Journal: Create a circle map that describes one of the four regions of Texas
and gives examples of Texas cities located in this region.
 Complete the video –“Texas, the Big Picture”
 Close –Reflection: What is the one thing from the video that surprised you the
most about Texas’ natural regions?

High Level Questions: What are two of the characteristics that define the Great
Plains and Mountains and Basins regions?

Friday 9/7
Objective: We will locate the Mountains & Basins, Great Plains, North Central Plains,
and Coastal Plains regions along with major cities, rivers, natural and historic landmarks,
and local points of interest.
Product/Task: I will reflect on the differences as well as the similarities between the
four regions of Texas. I will be familiar with the major cities, natural vegetation, climate,
natural resources, and major industries of each region.
