Conservation officer (Office in charge) at Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve (KTWR), Nepal's first
Ramsar site, under the Department of National Park and Wildlife Conservation (DNPWC).
Major responsibilities:







Conservation & management of rare and endangered wild animals (i.e. wild buffaloes,
Gangetic dolphin, Wild elephant, Bengal florican, Swamp francolin and other migratory
birds) of the reserve
Maintaining public relation & extension
Working as a member secretary in bufferzone management committee of KTWR.
Coordination with local stakeholders of KTWR for conservation of rare and endangered
species.
Lead and mobilize a team of 63 persons in conservation.
Lead research works including wild buffalo census, winter water bird count
Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation of Reserve units/ Protection units

Park Ranger: Worked as a wildlife ranger in Khaptad National Park (KNP), Chitwan National Park
(CNP), Langtang National Park (LNP) and Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve (KTWR) from Oct 1995
to Sep 2010. My major duties & responsibilities were:










Conservation & management of rare and endangered wild animals of the reserve and parks
Helping the user to form bufferzone user committee constitution and work plan
Conducting training program for junior park staff and local people about community
mobilization and biodiversity conservation
Establishing & managing Anti-Poaching Unit (APU)
Buffer zone community development activities
Preparation of site plan as per management plan
Contributed as a facilitator in participatory gender audit training, public audit training and
gender/social inclusion related training, workshops and programs
Working as a focal person for planning and implementation of conservation education
program for school students through formation eco-clubs and wetland clubs.
Coordination with district level government line agencies, non-government organizations,
resources users' committee and networks.
Involved in Tiger census program using camera traps in Chitwan National Park, a world
heritage site.

habitat of Chitwan National park" for the partial fulfilment of Bachelor degree in Forestry.
b) Conducted Asian Wild buffalo (Bubalus bubalis arnee) census in 2011, 2012. Assisted in
Asian wild buffalo census in 2009 & 2010, rhino census in 1996 and 2000.
c) Jointly conducted a research on "Status & distribution of Swamp francolin in Koshi Tappu
Wildlife Reserve" Eastern Nepal (unpublished).
C. Masters thesis on "Geospatial Modelling to Assess Asian Elephant (Elephas maximus)
habitat suitability, migratory routes & Human Elephant Interface in Eastern Nepal."
completed with the financial assistance of Rufford small grant program.

Plans for the future:
I. I am interested to conduct a research entitled "Ecological modelling of Bengal florican
habitat and niche analysis through habitat suitability modelling in KTWR".
II. I will continue conducting researches in biodiversity conservation and love to involve in
conservation awareness and action research works linking local people and wildlife habitat
improvement through application of geo-information science.
