Interpersonal Communication and Persuasion (2016, Spring, Kuo) Time:Thur.9:10-12:00 Place: Dayung 406 E-mail:kuoch668@gmail.com Phone: ext.67424 Course Objectives: This course focuses on communication – and it will be divided into two parts : 1) Interpersonal communication which deals with how you communicate with others and how you can be more effective in that communication in various social relationships and contexts. 2) Theoretical approaches of Persuasion which leads to attitude/behavior changes. 3) We will examine different theoretical approaches that explain why and how we communicate with one another, functions served by interpersonal communication, problems often associated with interpersonal communication, social relationships and the development of interpersonal skills. Meanwhile, various theories derived from social psychological and psychological areas that lead to persuasive effects in terms of attitude and behavior changes will be examined and discussed. Format: The course will be presented through some lectures, seminar discussions and group projects presentations. The students will be teamed up to work on class assignments, including leading in-class discussion of articles. A summary of the discussion results should be turned in and graded. Selected questions from the handouts will be included in the mid-term and final tests. Students' participation in classroom activities and group discussions will be graded.
