Ritu Sen Chaudhuri, after graduating from The University of Calcutta did her masters in Sociology also from the University of Calcutta in 1996. She received an UGC NET JRF and joined The Centre for Studies in Social Sciences, Calcutta as an ICSSR PhD Research Fellow under the supervision of Professor Pradip

Kumar Bose. She completed her PhD while teaching in the Department of Sociology at Mahishadal Girl’s

College (as a senior lecturer in sociology) with the assistance of a teacher fellowship under the Faculty

Improvement Programme of the University Grants Commission. She joined the West Bengal State

University, Department of Sociology after submitting her dissertation.

Ritu worked for an India Government AIDS project covering the different red-light areas of Kolkata and its surroundings. She also had a voluntary association with an NGO (Jabala) working with the children of the sex-workers since she was doing her masters. Her college teaching of nine years enriched her experiences of pedagogic practices in Sociology in non-metropolitan settings.

She has delivered many lectures at a number of Universities and Research Institutes and presented papers in national and international talks, seminars and conferences.

Currently, she is supervising five PhD dissertations (WBSU, JU, CU) and working on two book projects.

Worked as a Senior Lecturer in Sociology at Mahishadal Girls’ College, Mahishadal (2000

Worked as a U.G.C. F.I.P. Doctoral Teacher Fellow at The Centre for Studies in Social Sciences

Calcutta, under the Supervision of Dr. Pradip Bose, Professor in Sociology and submitted (May

Retrospect) at the University of Calcutta.
