Pre-School News
Rusty the Robot – Letters and Sounds
Starting the week commencing 11th January, we are going to be focusing on developing the school leaver
children with their speaking and listening skills through a program called Letters and Sounds: Phase 1. This
program is mainly adult led with lots of fun activities to enhance your child’s learning in sounds, blending and
listening. We will also be introducing our newest member to Preschool ‘Rusty the Robot’ he will be joining our
program and used to encourage the children to participate and enjoy the great activities we’ll be doing. Rusty is
a new improved programe that will replace Salley Squirrel. This will take place in group times on a Monday,
Wednesday and Friday.
Book Bags
Starting the week commencing 11th January, we will be running a reading bag scheme for all the school
leavers of 2016. Each Child who is going to school in September 2016 will be given a book bag containing a book
to borrow. This book is for you to read to your Child or to encourage your child to begin reading. This book is
for you to borrow for up to two weeks. When you are ready to change the book, please bring it in and a member
of staff will change it for you. This is at your own leisure. There is no set day for you to change your books.
Please Note: If you borrow a book you are liable for its cost if it is damaged or lost.
P.E
Starting the week commencing 11th January, our P.E sessions will begin again on a Monday afternoon. If your
Child attends a Monday afternoon and will be leaving for school in September, please can you ensure they
have a P.E bag which contains sport trousers/shorts, a t-shirt and plimsolls/trainers (All children take
part in P.E sessions, however only school leavers get changed) Our P.E sessions are planned sessions in
guidance with the Early Years Foundation Stage (2012) and they promote Physical Development as well as
independent skills in dressing and undressing. They are great fun too!
Pre-school toy donations
Thankyou to all who donate junk modelling bits and boxes- they come in very useful and the children love getting
creative with them! We are currently seeking some girls toys, particularly Barbies’, my little ponies, princess
dress up etc as well as any ICT equipment - Vtech cameras, tablets etc. If you have any of these items that are
unwanted at home and would like to donate them - we would love to give them a good home.
Pre-School Website
Please would you go into the Comments section of the website and leave a comment on what you think of our
Pre-School as your views are very important to us and prospective parents. Also, please remember to access our
website to look up useful information such as this newsletter, parent helper rota, term dates and any important
information such as short closures.

Don’t Forget Board
Please don’t forget our ‘DONT FORGET BOARD’ – This board is a great way to keep you up to date with
whats going on. Please take 2 minutes to look at it each day as we use it to remind you of events going on and
forms that need to be handed in.
Reminders
Just a little reminder, the children’s journals are still available for you to view on a daily basis in the quiet room.
Please remember that these are confidential so only look at your own child’s.
Also, the “at home I….” stickers are available in the foyer each morning, please feel free to write any
achievements on one and give it to your child so that we can share the experience. It could be that they slept in
their bed all night, or said goodbye to a dummy, anything significant to your child. We can then praise the child
for their achievement.
There are parent observation sheets also available for you to take home and write anything that you feel is a
developmental achievement for your child. You can then bring them into pre-school and we will stick the in your
child’s journal.
