I n t e r n a l V a c a n c y WRHI Programme: Adolescent Friendly Services for Perinatally and Behaviourally HIV-infected Adolescents Doctor Advisor Adolescent programme The overarching goal of the programme is to inform policy through developing, implementing and evaluating a replicable model of targeted and linked interventions within clinics, schools and communities to improve the screening, diagnosis, management, adherence, retention in care and transition to adult services of perinatally and behaviourally HIV-infected adolescents. Main purpose of the job The purpose of this position is to provide leadership and expertise in comprehensive clinical management and support of HIV infected adolescents within designated expert adolescent clinics as well as to provide technical support and training to internal and external stakeholders with regards to adolescent HIV management, adolescent sexual and reproductive health and adolescent mental health. Location Hillbrow, Johannesburg Key performance areas Provide comprehensive medical services to adolescents Manage complicated patients and referrals Refer adolescents with psychosocial and other needs to relevant support structures Provide continuous adherence counselling and health promotion Implement new treatment protocols Support the establishment of expert adolescent clinics within the relevant district Train and mentor DoH and Wits RHI staff in the provision of youth friendly clinical services for HIV positive adolescents Serve as a representative of the adolescent programme on both internal and external forums / working groups within the district Conduct clinical and operational research projects Contribute to the development of technical publications and other programme resources such as SOP’s, protocols and policy Develop tools and work practice guidelines to support the screening, diagnosis, management and referral of HIV positive adolescents within health facilities and through the Integrated Schools Health Policy Framework (ISHP) Compile monthly and quarterly management reports Required minimum education and training MBBCH or MBChB Diploma in HIV Management Required minimum work experience Minimum 5 years’ experience working within or supporting the public health sector Minimum 2 – 3 years’ experience in adolescent health, HIV management or sexual reproductive and reproductive health I n t e r n a l V a c a n c y Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities Comfortable managing adolescents patients Training experience would be advantageous Good interpersonal skills and ability to navigate complicated situations Excellent levels of written and verbal communication Demonstrated leadership ability.
