The Abstract is a summary of your science fair project. Your abstract is made up of a brief statement of the essential, or most important, thoughts about your project. Abstracts should summarize, clearly and simply, the main points of the experiment. Spelling, grammar, punctuation, neatness, and originality are important. It should be 250 to 300 words in length. It is one of the last parts of your science fair project that you will complete. Include the following to create your abstract: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Your projects purpose statement. The hypothesis A description of your variables and the control / constants. A description of what variable you are manipulating (changing) in your experiment. How you went about measuring and observing the variables / controls. Your results and data collected from your experiment. Your conclusion statement. Fill in the following lines to create a successful Abstract: The purpose of my science fair project was ________________________ My hypothesis for this project was______________________________ The constants and control in my experiment was____________________ The variable in my experiment was _____________________________ The way that I measured the responding or dependent variable was _____ The results of this experiment were ___________________________ The results show that my hypothesis should be (give brief reason why to accept or not)___________________________________________ If I were going to do this experiment again in the future or expand on this experiment I would _______________________________________ 3 Question State your question 4 Research Insert your research paper 5 Hypothesis Write an IF – THEN – BECAUSE statement. List your variables: Independent: Dependent: Control: 6 Materials List of materials and quantity. Procedures List of procedural steps. 7 Data At least one data table: Trials 1 Distance (cm) Time (sec) 2 3 4 At least one graph: 6 5 4 Series 1 3 Series 2 Series 3 2 1 0 Category 1 Category 2 Category 3 Useful websites: nces.ed.gov/nceskids/createAgraph http://onlinecharttool.com/ 8 Category 4 Conclusion Claim: Statement that answers your question Evidence: Restate your data to provide evidence for your claim. Scientific Reasoning: What is the science behind your claim? Why did you get these results? Look in your research… 9 Analysis List possible sources of experimental error. What would you change next time? What is your next question? Compare your results to your hypothesis. How is this project related to the real world…careers, scientists… 10 Bibliography A list of all the sources you used to complete your project.
