Aurora Cultural Arts District hires new Managing Director
WHAT: Meet and Greet Reception
WHEN: Friday, May 24, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
WHERE: Aurora Cultural Arts District Headquarters, 1400 Dallas St.
The Aurora Cultural Arts District (ACAD) has announced the appointment of Tracy Weil as the new Managing
Director. To welcome Weil to the district, a Meet and Greet is planned for May 24, at the ACAD headquarters. Weil
will report to the ACAD Board of Directors chaired by former State Representative & State Senator Bob Hagedorn.
“ACAD is extremely fortunate to find someone with Tracy's background and experience. He grew up in Aurora. He
made the RiNo art district a top destination in just a couple years, and he knows the challenges and opportunities
facing emerging art districts,” said Hagedorn.
The district was the recent recipient of a public art project by artist Susan Cooper, which uses lighting to highlight and
brand the area and enhances the multitude of other public art pieces in the neighborhood. Also in 2012, ACAD was
designated as an emerging Creative District by the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International
Trade.
ACAD continues to grow as mix of grassroots artists, businesses and organizations in partnership with the city of
Aurora. ACAD is already home to several creative enterprises including Red Delicious Press, The Aurora Fox,
Downtown Aurora Visual Arts (DAVA), 1400 Dallas Studios and Gallery, the Vintage Theater, The Collection, and
Sunrise Art Works. Redevelopment projects and new infrastructure in the area, including City Park, Florence Square,
Fletcher Plaza and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Library, have helped establish the district in the center of an important
‘Opportunity Triangle.’ The Cultural Arts District is located between Lowry, Stapleton and the Anschutz Medical
Campus at Fitzsimmons.
Weil will also be giving immediate attention to ramping up ACAD’s marketing and branding. He is setting up shop at
1400 Dallas St. and will reinvigorate the hub as a center for the area. Weil will work on strengthening partnerships
within the city and surrounding areas.
“I’m a product of this great neighborhood. I also lived in the area after I finished college and spent several of my
formative years as an artist creating art here. Our neighborhoods will benefit from a vibrant and diverse cultural
district right in their own backyard.” said Weil.
