(Total of 16 contact hours or 1.6 CEUs) for all K-12 interpreters. Contract to provide two, day-long, on-site, skill-based training (with CEUs for 1) K-12 interpreters who are not yet permanently licensed and have an EIPA score in the range of 3.0-3.4 and for 2 K-12 interpreters who are permanently licensed and have an E. This will be in Des Moines probably January or February. Boys Town has 4 1 workshops that are $75 each and we might help interpreters. Will send to AEA directors. Hands and Voices would also help. Contract with Dr. Cheryl deConde Johnson to adapt, implement and analyze the use of the Placement and Readiness (PARC) documents. Marsha recommends pilot use of these. Provide basic and intermediate parent sign language training. May use the ICN. Sign Language Proficiency Interview pilot program – evaluating the sign language competency of staff working with deaf and hard of hearing students who sign. This pilot with on large urban school district will provide baseline of competency. Sign language may be different from people to people. Parents shouldn’t learn sign language from their children. Lewis Central person in charge of interpreters doesn’t sign. ISD would work with her to access and train the interpreters. We need someone who is great interpreter to supervise interpreters. Cost covered by Department of Education. New software program we will be used as database for audiology reports. Product is ready-made. Information already in for every kid who has a hearing loss in a certain range. Can be matched with assessment data such as IEP goals. AEAs 10 & 15 are next to get training for audiologists and other staff. Then every two weeks another AEA will be trained. Start date is November 11th Changes in Des Moines due to special education changes. Some transitions happening, but in a positive way. Will now have their own audiologist and not contracted with AEA. Update on summer programs Three summer program: June Sports Camp has 16 campers. July program at ISD has 73 campers and over half are not ISD students Vinton campus program has 11 campers and only 2 were ISD students Eastside camp will probably outgrow IBS campus. Other Kenda suggested skill level test for jobs. Then take test results to future employees. We should have a joint partnership with major employers. Connect this with information to send to the legislature. We could name the program Skilled Iowa. 3
