Dear Parents,
There is some confusion over the snow days for Dent County schools and their make-up days. Salem R80 has a different end date than the four K-8 rural schools. Salem R-80 started school three (3) days later than
the K-8 districts and had an additional day for a funeral. This puts R-80 with three (3) more days to make-up
than the rest of the area schools. For R-80, these days are not weather related, so they do not fall into the
inclement weather guidelines provided by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
The following is a list of the snow days and their make-up days. Please be aware that we will be in
school on Friday, March 13. We will use this day for the missed day specific to the funeral. Friday, March 13
will be a full day of school.

For the first six (6) snow days the district is required to make-up each day. The next six (6) snow days
are made up two-for-one. Districts only have to make-up one day of school for two days missed. After a total of
ten (10) days made up by a district, the rest are forgiven by the state, but this rule only applies to inclement
weather snow days.
If we miss additional days we will provide an updated list. I hope this clears up some of the confusion,
