Ad/Song Analysis
How has society devalued life?
The Church teaches us that life is sacred and worthy of God’s unconditional love. Thus, life is a
special gift and should be respected. Unfortunately, there are many of examples in the world
today where this belief is not upheld. In this assignment you are going to examine an aspect of
popular culture to analyze its position on the sanctity of life.
Assignment Outline
 PART ONE: Topic Selection
Option 1 – Advertisement Analysis
Find two contrasting advertisements – one should promote life and the other should
devalue life.
Option 2 – Song Analysis
Find the lyrics for two contrasting songs. The lyrics of one song should promote life and
the lyrics of the other should devalue life.
 PART TWO: Self-Reflecting Response
In proper paragraph format, contrast the sanctity of life using your two pieces of
popular culture (music lyrics or ads). Cite specific examples from your advertisements or
song lyrics to explain how society has at times devalued life as well as promoted life.
You should also identify the Church’s position on the sanctity of life.
