The Penwheel August 12, 2014 Bill Pethick, Reporter JOE BEST was our greeter today but arrived a bit late so we all greeted ourselves. BRUCE VANDERWARKER jumped in to lead the pledge. DAVE STURTZ gave the invocation. VISITING ROTARIANS & GUESTS Guest today was PAUL MARINUCCI who is a prospective member transferring from the Gates-Chili club. SUNSHINE REPORT No report today. ANNOUNCEMENTS JACK BEST o reviewed some upcoming event for club members to note: World Polio Week is October 21, 2014 and needs a volunteer to plan how we participate. BILL PETHICK volunteered. o noted there will be no meeting on December 23, 2014 but we should consider some service project that we may not have done before. The board will discuss next month. o reports that we have secured the Dolomite Lodge for the Penfield Rotary Christmas party on December 16, 2014. Pen-Web Rotary Club will be invited to join with us. o has set aside February 24, 2015 as the Service Above Self Lunch but this event is in need of a chair. Anyone willing to accept this should contact JACK BEST soon so planning can commence. o says September is Rotary Make Up Month. Members are asked to make up at some other club during that month. Each week the President will ask who has made up that week. The board might consider some type of prize for this. BRUCE VANDERWARKER reports that four Penfield Rotarians participated in the Pittsford Golf Tournament. They were BRUCE VANDERWARKER, BOB SMITH, JACK WETZEL and DAVE STURTZ. Two suggestions for our tournament came out of this. They have a better format for their Putting Contest and they start the tournament at 10:00 am. Both items will be considered for our tournament next year. NELS CARMAN suggested we move 2+2+2 to the third week so it didn’t fall on the same week as the board meeting. After discussion, it was decided to leave it on the second week. HAPPY DOLLARS None today PROGRAM Other club, area and district events for the year will be published. We are in the final stages of adopting Quickbooks as our financial reporting format. However, there is one other possibility that we will be looking at before final action. Highway Cleanup will be twice a year. One in the fall and one with the town in the spring. Date for the fall event needs to be set. NELS CARMAN suggested the fall event coincide with the Bike Dropoff. It was noted that it could detract from the cleanup activity. Board to decide. The spring cleanup will be done in conjunction with the town cleanup. With Steve Grimm leaving, we are in need of a New Generations Chair. This is a very important committee as the majority of our service projects budget goes for New Generations related projects. A new chair needs to be in place as soon as possible to re-establish our relations with the school. BRUCE VANDERWARKER says he might consider the position but needs to get more details. We should get more involved with RYLA. This will be discussed in more detail next month. While we do not have any grants in the works, it is possible that we could decide to do so in the future. In order to apply for a grant, two members from the club need to be trained and certified. STEVE KETCH and IVETH REYNOLDS have signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and may qualify. The 2014-2015 budget was presented and was passed using a $6310.00 balanced budget for Administration and a $13,500 balanced budget for Projects. The latter includes taking up to $1000 for the Money Market account as needed. A proposed board and committee structure for 2014-2015 was presented based on the new reduced board. Confirmed or suggested names were attached to most positions but adoption of the structure will come next meeting after more discussion in the coming month. IVETH REYNOLDS notes the desire to include people from outside the club to assist in preparing, promoting and staffing the 2015 Golf Tournament. An initial meeting will be scheduled for late September. LINDA KOHL notes the R Community Bikes project on October 4 will be advertised on our website, Facebook page and the Post newspapers. CHRISTIAN PAPPAS says we will have at least three new members to induct on September 2, 2014 and possibly two or three more. JACK BEST says the website and Facebook are up to date. We are inviting 8 guests to next week’s meeting. The board approved funding those guests as potential members and will come out of the membership budget. MARY ANN MADY asked if we will be funding the dollar for dollar match to the Rotary Foundation in November. In the past we matched a member’s contribution dollar for dollar up to $50.00 per member with a cap at $1000. The possibility of not putting a personal cap at $50.00 was thought to limit the number of members who would contribute if some on gave a large amount. The idea behind the match is to get 100% participation. Also. We would not want to go beyond the $1000. Board approved the $50.00 individual match and a $1000 cap. RAFFLE Nancy Aumann won the $6.00 raffle and left the Joker for another day.
