Four alumni have been newly appointed as members of the Alumni Council at Colby College. Caitlin Burchill ’12, Susan Banta Gallagher ’89, Matt Hancock ’90, and Chad Higgins ’97 began their three-year term on July 1. Burchill lived in Walpole, Massachusetts prior to coming to Colby and now works as an anchor and reporter for WABI TV5 in Bangor, Maine. While at Colby she majored in American Studies with a minor in women, gender, and sexuality. She played volleyball all four years at Colby. She will join the C Club Committee of the council which organizes functions in support of Colby athletics, recognizes and honors Colby athletes, and more. Hancock was raised in Casco, Maine and will also join the C Club Committee. He owns a real estate business, Matt Hancock Properties LLC in the state of Maine. He received his degree in Government. Hancock is a sponsor of Jan Plan internships and has served on the Colby Fund Class Gift Committee. He played two varsity sports while at Colby, baseball and basketball. Higgins resided in Sabattus, Maine prior to Colby and is an associate with the legal firm Goodwin Proctor LLP in Boston. He was a Government major and is the Goldfarb Center liaison in Maine. He also served on the Colby Fund Class Gift and Anniversary Gift Committees. Higgins will sit on the Colby Fund Committee which helps with the College’s annual fundraising efforts. Higgins played basketball all four years at Colby. Banta Gallagher hails from Connecticut but now resides in Georgia where she works for Talbots as a visual assistant. She joins the council as a member of the Awards Committee which oversees the nominations of the annual awards received at Reunion such as the Brick Award. She majored in American Studies at Colby and has served as an admissions alumni interviewer in the past. Banta Gallagher also played a sport while at Colby; she was a member of the tennis team all four years. Deb Wathen Finn, the chair of the Alumni Council, in announcing these additions to the Alumni Council stated, “I am so pleased to have the addition of individuals of the caliber of these four alumni as they bring their leadership talents, diversity of experiences and most importantly their ongoing commitment to alumni engagement demonstrated by their past contributions to Colby as students and alumni. Such talent is important as the Council works to reflect the broad interests of the alumni community and increase programs to support our alumni.” The Alumni Council is comprised of about 35 alumni who volunteer their time and expertise to advance the mission of the College.
