Year 6 homework
This term I am giving you a menu of ‘Crime Scene’ homework activities to link in with our CSI
science and English topics (we will be carrying on with the Mayans in class too). Over the next
6 weeks, you must choose one option from each category each week.
Remember: You will be learning lines for the performance too!
Writing tasks must be presented clearly in a writing pen and must be at least 3 paragraphs.
Always remember your ACARPPIE. Research tasks must be at least a page long and put into
some of your OWN WORDS. Please do not copy and paste!
Category 1: Writing
Write a crime report based
On a traditional tale (e.g
Goldilocks and the 3 Bears)
Crime trial: Basing your crime on a
traditional tale, come up with
10 questions and answers
between a lawyer and defendant.
Category 2: Knowledge and understanding
Research crime and
punishment (e.g Tudor,
Victorian)
Research a famous detective from
literature.
Category 3: Art & design
Design your own detective.
Police sketches (read below for
information).
Category 4: Maths
Murder mystery maths sheet
Don’t forget about Mathletics!
Suggestion on how to tackle some of the activities!
Crime Report
Use the template provided to write a crime
report on a traditional tale.
Think about:
Date / time
People involved
Witnesses
Details about the crime scene
Crime Trial
Like the crime report, base your trial on a
traditional fairy tale so that you are aware of
the background.
Come up with 10 questions/ answers
between a lawyer and defendant.
No yes/ no answers so make sure you use
OPEN QUESTIONING.
You could draw a crime scene picture to go
with it.
Research tasks
Children can use books or the internet (with
support) to research these topics further.
Remember not to simply copy and paste –
use your own words and NEVER use words
you don’t understand! I will be checking!
Police sketches
The police often rely on witness
descriptions when looking for suspects. I
have attached some descriptions of faces, so
you will have to work as police sketch
artists to produce a replica of the given
description! Come back to school and I will
show you what they should have looked
like!
