What is the Lion’s Den?
In the summer term, the program focuses on welcoming new/incoming students and their parents to
Glendon and introducing them to support services on campus and how to get involved. In the fall and
winter terms, the focus of the program switches from welcoming new students to supporting their
transition and adjustment to university life. In the fall/winter, successful applicants will be involved in:
1) Peer mentoring
Each peer mentor will:
 Liaise with the same group of 20-30 students from August (by email) to the end of the
winter term (in person, by phone and by email);
 Meet her/his group of mentees at Discover Glendon, new student orientation, and spend
the entire day with the group to field questions, take the mentees on a tour of the
campus, and to have lunch together;
 Meet interested mentees on a bi-weekly or monthly basis to cover various mentoring
topics;
 Call their mentees once in fall term and again in winter the term to encourage and assess
development;
 Commit to 3 hours at the information kiosk in the Centre of Excellence to answer all
students' questions, direct students to services, host activities, promote events, and
provide general information online and in person.
2) Events and canvassing. At the kiosk in the Centre of Excellence, each peer mentor will:
 Assist with the promotion, organization and implementation of special events and projects
such as monthly themed activities, meet and greets, an annual leadership conference,
conversation cafés, spirit days, Semaine de la Francophonie, and other campaigns and
initiatives;
 Do regular walkabouts to raise awareness about upcoming events, campaigns and
activities.
3) Workshop facilitation. On scheduled days, certain peer mentors may:
 Assist in promoting and facilitating flexible “get involved” orientation sessions, leadership
development workshops, and student club and organization workshops.
4) Team work. Each peer mentor will:
 Communicate with the team via the Lion’s Den internal Facebook group, attend one 2
hour team meeting per month, and occasionally meet with their team lead to touch base;
 Contribute to creating a safe, fun and positive team environment.
