CASA of Travis County Job Description Title: Human Resources Generalist Date: November 2015 Reports To: Executive Director FLSA Status: Exempt General Summary Reporting to the Executive Director, the Human Resources Generalist supports CASA's mission by ensuring a positive organizational culture for its employees. The HR Generalist supports CASA’s senior management team by serving as a “champion for culture” in the organization. The HR Generalist is educated enough to know the various rules that apply to CASA as an employer and sensible enough to know when and how to encourage appropriate flexibility, so that the workplace is more nurturing than bureaucratic. The HR Generalist manages the administration of the human resources policies, procedures and programs and makes recommendations for changes as needed. The HR Generalist offers support to CASA’s management and carries out responsibilities related to: creating a diverse & inclusive culture; employee professional development; performance management; benefits and compensation; employee acquisition & retention; and legal compliance. Essential Responsibilities and Duties Helps cultivate the organization's culture so that it supports the attainment of the CASA's goals and promotes employee engagement. Makes recommendations for actions or processes that can enhance or improve CASA's culture and employee retention. Recommends employee relations practices necessary to establish a positive employer-employee relationship and promote a high level of employee morale and motivation. Actively participates as a leader in creating and maintaining a diverse and inclusive workplace. Develops& manages hiring best practices that meet the needs of CASA's various departments, and assists and advises hiring teams. Secures all necessary pre-employment checks and ensures compliance with Texas CASA and National CASA hiring standards. Assists professional development, new employee orientation, and leadership development. Assists with the implementation of the performance management system. Administers the 403(b) plan and completes yearly compliance reporting. Manages benefits process from selection to open enrollment and assists employees throughout the year with benefits administration. Responsible for the development and management of a highly competitive and attractive total rewards package to ensure the attraction, development and retention of talented employees. Assists with the development and communication of human resources policies and procedures. Responsible for mitigating and minimizing employee risk, including conducting investigations and providing thoughtful, positive solutions and guidance, as appropriate. Helps CASA to comply with all existing governmental and labor legal and government reporting requirements including any related to the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA), the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), the Department of Labor, worker compensation, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and so forth. The Human Resources Generalist assumes other responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director. Knowledge, Skills and Experience Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or Organization Development or related field. Masters degree preferred. At least five years of progressively more responsible experience in human resources, recruiting, or related positions. Demonstrated experience in helping to create a diverse, inclusive and nurturing workplace. Staffing experience preferred. Enterprise experience preferred. Specialized training in employment law, compensation, organization planning, organization development, employee relations, safety, and training, preferred. Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification preferred, not required. Critical areas of qualifications include the following: Excellent oral and written communication. Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills. Evidence of the practice of a high level of confidentiality. Excellent organizational skills. General knowledge of employment laws and practices. Experience in the administration of benefits and compensation programs and other human resources programs. Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft environment. Must include Excel and demonstrated skills in database management and record keeping. Physical Requirements and Work Environment The Human Resources Generalist will spend the majority of the time in the office and that could involve intermittent physical activities including bending, reaching, sitting and walking during working hours and must be able to lift at least 20 pounds. Additionally it is anticipated that the person will spend several hours of each day seated at a PC.
