Sunshine Club Sunshine Club – Birthday and Well Wishes Club The Sunshine Club was created to uplift our Mid-Day Women’s Alliance members and let them know how much they matter with a simple gesture of a Well Wishes card. These Well Wishes included but were not limited to; Birthdays, Promotions, New Careers, Births, Weddings, Illnesses/Surgeries/Injuries, etc. Funerals, and a few other life events as they came up. Shannon Attreed and Lisa Herrmann were the first Co-Chairs, which began in the summer of 2014. Birthdays Sue Tomko would provide the list of members to Shannon and Lisa that would include their birthdays and addresses. Lisa would prepare the cards a few months in advance and take a photo of the front of the card and inside of the card and share those with Shannon. A note in pencil was written on the back of the envelope with the birth date so Lisa knew when to mail the card. She created a monthly system in her online calendar so she knew when to mail the cards so they would arrive timely. Simple erasing of the penciled birth date, stamp the envelope and mail on the appropriate date. Voila – a smile was sent in the mail. Shannon would take the photos and upload them to the Mid-Day Women’s Alliance Facebook page. Shannon was able to upload several and schedule the photos in advance to be posted so she did not have to monitor them. Other Life Events Word travels, and all members would keep the Sunshine Club informed of any member that had an event that the Sunshine Club would need to be aware of to send out the Well Wishes card. Keeping It Under Control While we would love to acknowledge all our members on everything in their lives, that just was not a possibility. Therefore, sending out cards for events other than listed above were discussed among the team to determine if a card should go out or if we should just give a hug when we met with our MDWA member. Many times that was all she needed. Supplies Birthday cards were purchased many times at the Dollar Store. Shannon worked hard at trying to not select duplicate cards so each member received one unique to them. When it was on an as-neededbasis, many times Lisa would just pick up the appropriate card and send it to the MDWA member as well as provide a photo to Shannon. NOTE – this was also discussed by the Sunshine Club team before posting. In some situations it was determined that privacy was necessary and that our Well Wishes were enough. That was on a situational basis. Stamps were purchased in rolls of 100’s. All supplies were reimbursable. A form was provided by the MDWA, Lisa or Shannon simply sent the form in with the receipts and by the following month they were reimbursed. This was a great opportunity be a part of Sending a Smile to someone deserving. The MDWA is a closenit group of women, and we are proud to have been the first Co-Chairs of this wonderful club.
