6th Gr Social Studies Project
Ancient Egypt Group Pyramid
Objective: Student will build a diorama depicting one aspect of Ancient Egyptian
life. Each diorama in the group will be used to build a group pyramid showing 9
aspects of Ancient Egypt.
Topics for each group: hieroglyphics, Rosetta Stone, social classes,
mummies/mummification, Nile River, papyrus, pyramids, gods, women in ancient
Egypt (Winnie), Old Kingdom, Middle Kingdom, New Kingdom
Diorama: This will be created in a standard shoe box. Do not use boxes with the
lid attached. Do not use the cover of the box at all.
Student will create a 3 dimensional project to show what life was like in Ancient
Egypt. Be as creative as you can! Labels should be used to clarify ideas and
illustrations.
Writing: You will write a report about your topic, to be handed in separately. Your
report will be typed, double spaced, in 12 pt. font. Headings may be larger.
Your report will include a cover page with proper information (name, date,
title of project). It will include a paragraph describing and/or defining your
subject. It will also include a paragraph regarding how your subject played a part
in Ancient Egypt. Your third paragraph will talk about connections to present day
Egypt. **Remember, paragraphs have a topic sentence, at least 4 supporting
sentences, and a concluding sentence.**
Sources: You will also include a work cited page. You will have at least 3 sources
for your report and diorama. You must cite these sources on a separate sheet of
paper at the end of your report. You may use your Social Studies text as a source.
