LESSONS
In all cases these will be on an individual basis and last for 30 or 20 minutes, (please note that
small group lessons will not be available at SHFGS). There will be 34 lessons spread across
the three terms. Students will leave their normal lessons for instrumental tuition, but a rota is
set up wherever possible to avoid impacting the same lesson every week. Lessons may also
take place during breaks and lunchtimes. Please consider this carefully before you request
instrumental tuition lessons.
FEES
In all cases the lesson fees are as follows:
Individual 30 minute lesson
Individual 20 minute lesson
£204 per term
£136 per term
INSTRUMENTS
In all cases students are required to organise their own instruments before commencing tuition.

You can hire an instrument from the Buckinghamshire Learning Trust when you are
starting. The charge is £15 per term - please use Form 17D.

You can purchase, via the school through the Musical Instrument Purchase Scheme. This
enables school age students to purchase a musical instrument without having to pay VAT
on the transaction. Please use Form 17E for this.

Alternatively, a loan scheme is available by the Arts Council. This an interest free loan
for between £100.00 - £5,000.00 for the purchase of musical instruments. For further
details please see http://www.takeitaway.org.uk.
INSTRUMENT STORAGE
Instruments may be left in the musical instrument cupboard during the day of tuition, but must
be taken home at night. The school cannot provide secure, locked storage and we suggest that
you insure your own instruments, as they are not covered by school insurance.
Instrument cases must be clearly named on the outside. Labels are available free of charge
from the Performing Arts Reception.
MUSIC ENSEMBLES
The school is fortunate enough to have a wide range of excellent music ensembles that take
place free of charge during the school day. The extra-curricular timetable is published at the
start of the year and provides opportunities for students to perform in a wide range of
ensembles and concerts. School groups include:

perform in a wide range of groups, ensembles and choirs during the week and on Saturday
mornings. Whilst attendance is not required, we do highly recommend this service. For further
details please use Form 17F or contact the Aylesbury Music Centre.
TIMETABLES
These are displayed on the notice board in the Performing Arts Department and are also
distributed during registration. It is the responsibility of the student to check this regularly,
particularly at the start of a new term.
ATTENDANCE
Students are expected to attend their lessons each week with their instrument and relevant
music.
The student should inform the instrumental teacher or the Performing Arts Administrator of any
planned absences, for example taking an exam, a school trip, study leave or medical
appointment. It may be possible to change lesson times if enough notice is given. Un-notified
absences will be communicated to parents/carers.
Each half term attendance will be reviewed. If a student misses three or more lessons without
good reason they may not be allowed to continue with their lessons unless attendance
improves.
PRACTICE
Students are required to practice daily as advised by the teacher. If students fail to practice
for an extended period parents will be contacted and in certain instances they may not be
allowed to continue with their lessons until the situation improves.
CEASING TUITION
Please note the restrictions in place on the Forms 17B and 17C. By signing the form you are
committed financially to making full payment to the end of the contract. Withdrawal from
lessons at the end of a term can be agreed provided a full half term’s written notice is given.
