Nursing 220: Nursing Care of the Child-Bearing Family Clinical Nursing Simulation Center (CNSC) Information As part of clinical experience, you will attend a teaching/practice session in the CNSC. Prior to this session, you are to review the assigned modules of Taylor’s Video Guide to Clinical Nursing Skills Student Set on CD-ROM. During the clinical experience you will need to learn and practice the following: Personal Protection 1) View the CD-ROM: Module 2: Asepsis 2) Be prepared to demonstrate proper procedures for putting on and removing personal protective equipment Secondary IV Medication Administration 1) View CD-ROM: Module 5: Intravenous Medications 2) Be prepared to demonstrate proper procedures for secondary IV medication administration by choosing and employing correct interventions for administration of secondary IV medications. Additional skills will be covered during clinical teaching/practice sessions in the CNSC during the first two weeks of your clinical experience. In the fourth and fifth weeks of your clinical experience, you will participate in scheduled assessment skill demonstrations. (Please schedule your time by calling Kim Hearst at 408-4089.) These assessment skill demonstrations will be based on information learned in the classroom and pre-hospital CNSC teaching sessions. These assessment skill demonstrations are as follows: Newborn Assessment Week Four To demonstrate competency, you must: 1) Complete a full physical assessment of a newborn simulation manikin. 2) Bathe and provide cord care to a newborn simulation manikin. 3) Administer Vitamin K to a newborn simulation manikin. Post Partum Assessment- I Week Five To demonstrate competency, you must: 1) Complete a BUBBLE-HE assessment on a post partum simulation manikin. 2) Properly choose, don, and remove personal protective equipment. 3) Administer an intravenous antibiotic to a post partum simulation manikin. In the twelfth week of your clinical experience, you will participate in a scheduled clinical simulation. (Please schedule your time by calling Kim Hearst at 408-4089.) This clinical simulation will be based on information learned in the classroom, CNSC teaching sessions, required readings, and clinical experiences. The clinical simulation will be focused on care of the post partum patient as follows: Post Partum Clinical Simulation Week Twelve To demonstrate competency in clinical judgment, you must: 1) Complete a BUBBLE-HE assessment on a post partum simulation manikin. 2) Properly choose, don, and remove personal protective equipment. 3) Assess for post partum complications and provide appropriate nursing interventions based on findings.
