Chapter 2.1 (What is Life?) – pp.34-40
Chapter 2.2 (Classifying Organisms) – pp. 42-49
Directions:
Use the list below of ‘Study Guide Pieces’ to prepare for the upcoming TEST,
scheduled for ….. FRIDAY, OCT. 16th.

Study each piece on the suggested days (You
may adjust your days of study to ‘best fit’ your schedule). Helpful hint: DON’T wait until the night
before the test to study everything at once!!!! DO start your studies now, using the suggested days
posted in ‘red’ & with parentheses marks at the ending of EACH ‘Study Guide Piece’ below, and continue
them EACH night to best suit your needs!!! Go Beacons of Light! 
Study Guide Piece a = Key Terms of Chapter 2.1 – Know the definitions & interpretations w/ examples
of the key terms for Chapter 2.1 (What is Life?) from your T-Chart AND textbook context clues! Study
them well from your completed ‘Vocabulary Organizer T-Chart’. BEST WISHES!  – (1st Day/Night of
Studying –Friday, Oct. 9, 2015)
Study Guide Piece b = Key Terms of Ch. 2.2 – Finish & study the definitions, interpretations w/ examples
of the key terms for Chapter 2.2 (Classifying Organisms) from your ‘Vocabulary Organizer T-Chart’ AND
textbook context clues! Then, study these key terms & matching definitions really well!  GO FOR THE
GOLD!!!– (2nd Day/Night of Studying – Sat. or Sunday, 10.9.15 or 10.10.15…whichever works best in your
schedule.)
Study Guide Piece c = Section Assessments = S.A.! … Hand write onto white-lined paper ( OR type)
your ‘Section Assessment’ responses for Ch. 2.1
and 2.2.
Complete EACH of the two following “Section Assessments”:


Chapter 2.1 S.A is on pg. 40 = Do #s1a,c; 2c; 3a,c
(BEFORE YOUR WORK ON CH.2.2 DO WHAT IT STATES BELOW IN THE ‘HELPFUL HINTS’ ! 
Chapter 2.2 S.S is on pg. 49 = Do #s1a,b; 2b; 3a-c
Helpful Hint #1: Read chapter 2.2 on ‘Classifying Organisms’,; next, review 2.2 T-Chart of Vocab. which
you should have finished by last night or sooner… and THEN complete the given #s posted above of
Chapter 2.2 S.A. on pg. 49). Study the work you did, including the proofread/editing from class.
Helpful Hint #2: By the next school day we will review your work during class using the ‘Socratic
Method’ of discussion, AND…the’ TEACHER NOTES’ will be posted online for you after we review in
class. – (3rd Day/Night of Studying – Sunday or Monday, 10.11.15 or 10.12.15)
Study Guide Piece d = Colorful Textbook “Figures” (pictures) & the matching captions of ch.2.1 AND
2.2 (words, phrases, sentences) to those figures! You will STUDY the pictures on each page of Ch. 2.1
and 2.2. It’s very helpful to do this piece, as pictures are known to explain a ‘thousand words’!!  There
will be a class lesson on this and ‘how to’ best use pictures to help you study! Through OBSERVATIONS
of pictures/ details of those pictures, we really do learn so much!  (4th Day/Night of Studying –
Tuesday, 10.13.15)
Study Guide Piece e = “Guided Reading & Study” (GRS) Student’s Cross-Referenced Notes & Teacher
Notes OF both…Chapter 2.1, “WHAT IS LIFE?” AND Chapter 2.2, “CLASSIFYING ORGANISMS” (Also do
this on the 4th Day/Night of Studying –Tuesday, 10.13.15)

Study Guide Piece f = “Scientific Classification of Animals” sheet…..
IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND AND STUDY!
(By this day, you will have already read and highlighted, AND
discussed with editions, a data chart relating the levels of organization to the characteristics of organisms during
class, and now you need to re-read and study the chart again!) Happy data-reading and re-thinking about
classifications of these organisms! - (5th Day/Night of Studying – Wednesday, 10.14.15)
Study Guide Piece g = Study your completed document piece called, “Characteristics of Domains” sheet
(2 sided sheet). (Also do this on the 5th Day/Night of Studying – Wed.,10.14.15)

Studying also!!!!…NOTE:
The TEST is on Friday, Oct. 16!)
