COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course deals with the concepts, principles and nursing responsibilities and intervention basic to the administration
of drugs and other therapeutic agents. Furthermore, understanding of the different diagnostic procedures used in the identification of
problems by body system with emphasis on promotion, maintenance and restoration of health will be enhanced.

STUDENT ENTRY COMPETENCIES:
1. A concrete knowledge in basic human psychology is needed so that students will be able to relate the inner workings of
the mind and its influence on the body as a whole
2. Basic knowledge in chemical processes and organic chemistry will guide the students in understanding the metabolic
functions and chemical interactions that is necessary for survival.
3. Fundamental knowledge in physics will guide the students in understanding the relationships of the internal and external
structure of the body, its organization and groupings with respect to the cells, organs and systems function as a
whole and as individual components of the human body.
4. A wide-ranging knowledge on Fundamentals in nursing and nursing process in order to apply skills with knowledge, care
& compassion.
GENERAL OBJECTIVES:
The BSN Level II students will be able to acquire essential knowledge, provides sound decision making, administers medication or
therapeutics using the nursing process and maintains proper documentation and safe administration in the caring aspect of nursing
practice. Specifically, the students will:






Discuss the overview of medication involve in the care of the patients.
Describe the absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion of drugs for patients receiving medications
Explain the mechanism of action of drugs affecting organization and awareness.
Identify common drug interactions.
Familiarize general side-effects of the medications.
