Introduction
Water pollution problems of the world.
We have problems about water pollution. Water pollution comes natural: due to rain,
snow melt, wind storms, flooding into the dirty waste water, organisms and harmful
microorganisms including our bodies. Depleting and further still, every single day in short, water
is vitally important, so is protection of water resources necessary for human life today and
tomorrow. Water pollution originating artificial process hazardous waste primarily as a liquid,
such as municipal waste, industrial, agricultural, transportation on water I will be talking about
types, causes, effects, prevention of water pollution.

Body:
Definition : Water pollution is any chemical, physical or biological change in the quality of
water that has a harmful effect on any living thing that drinks or uses or lives . When humans
drink polluted water it often has serious effects on their health. Water pollution can also make
water unsuited for the desired use. Water pollution is increasingly becoming a large problem that
we as humans need to confront. Water is our most valuable resource:

“97% of the water on the Earth is salt water. Only three percent is fresh water;
slightly over two thirds of this is frozen in glaciers and polar ice
caps”(Jacqueline).

“The remaining unfrozen fresh water is found mainly as groundwater, with only a
small fraction present above ground or in the air”( Jacqueline).
Water stress
Best estimate of the share of people in developing countries with
access to drinking water 1970–2000.

Types of Water Pollutions :
There are two types of water pollution: point source and nonpoint source.

Point sources of pollution occur when harmful substances are put directly into a body of
water .

A nonpoint source is when pollutants enter the water indirectly through environmental
changes .
Causes of Water Pollution:
Water pollution is one of the leading causes of imbalance in our ecosystem. The dangers of this
pollution are highly underrated, with very few things actually being done for its prevention.
water pollutants are nutrients; they are water-soluble nitrates and phosphates that cause excessive
growth of algae and other water plants, which deplete the water's oxygen supply. This kills fish
and, when found in drinking water, can kill young children. Water can also be polluted by a
number of organic compounds such as oil, plastics and pesticides, which are harmful to humans
and all plants and animals in the water.
Sewage Water Pollution
Improper Waste Disposal
Loss of Biodiversity


Pollution is also caused when silt and soil wash off of plowed fields, construction and
logging sites, urban areas, and eroded river banks when it rains “Water also gets polluted
due to surface runoff from industries, agricultural land and urban areas”( Joshi). The soil
can kill tiny animals and fish eggs.

Another cause of pollution in water is foreign bacteria, viruses, and parasites. Bacteria,
often from sewage spills, can pollute fresh or salt water. These bacteria deplete oxygen
levels even further, so that only anaerobic bacteria can be active. This makes life in the
water impossible for fish and other organisms.

Another cause for water pollution is introduced by radioactive substances such as oil and
heat. Water pollution from oil is caused by such things as oil spills and drilling near a
water ecosystem “Ocean pollution facts suggest that 45 percent of the ocean water
pollution can be attributed to marine transportation, and 32 percent to oil spills from the
oil tankers”( Naik). Heat is a pollution problem because a drastic change in temperature
can be very harmful for water organisms
Effects of Water Polution
Water pollution is a problem that affects almost all nations of the world.

Effects of Oil Pollution and Antifreeze “If oil is spilled on the water, the effects on the
ecosystem and the components are harmful. Many animals can be annihilated in case they ingest
oil. Oil contaminated prey may be a reason of death for many”( Burande). Oceans are polluted
by oil on a daily basis from oil spills, routine shipping, run-offs and dumping.
Fertilizers and Other Chemicals “Nitrates in drinking water lead to diseases of infants
that may result in their death. Cadmium is a metal in sludge-derived fertilizer. This can be
absorbed by crops. When people ingest this, they may cause diarrheal disorders, liver and kidney
damage. The inorganic substances like mercury, arsenic and lead are the causes of pollution”(
Burande ).Mercury is also toxic to other animals and microorganisms. many types of mercury
compounds used to kill mold.
Effects of Agricultural Water Pollution “Rain and irrigation water drains off cultivated
land that has been fertilized and treated with pesticides, the excess nitrogen and poisons are
mixed with it into the water supply (Burande).
Effects of Heavy Metal Water Pollution “Heavy metals like lead, mercury, iron,
cadmium, aluminum and magnesium are present in water sources” (Nakate).

Some Other Effects of Water Pollution
Do 6
 Any changes that reduce the amount of dissolved oxygen would badly
affect the aquatic organisms.
 Industrial waste water is wastewater from the facility industry, small
industry, transportation. Industry is a huge source of water pollution, it
produces pollutants that are extremely harmful to people and the
environment.
Prevention of Water Pollutions:

Toxic products like paints, automobile oil, polishes, and cleaning products should be
stored and disposed off properly.

Try using natural fertilizers and pesticides as far as possible

Automobile oil should be re-used as far as possible.

Avoid buying packaged water as far as possible.
Conclusion:
The water pollution occurs when harmful chemicals, the type of pathogenic bacteria, viruses,
parasites arising from the different waste substances industrial waste from the factory, all
kinds of hospital waste, the waste of human normal or chemicals, pesticides, distribution
organic fertilizers ... used in agricultural production is pushed out of ponds, lakes, rivers,

streams or leach into groundwater without any treatment or with large volume beyond selfregulation and self-cleaning of these ponds, lakes, rivers and streams. Water pollution is a
change for the worse the physical, chemical, biological of water, with the presence of foreign
substances in liquid, solid; making the source water becomes toxic to humans and animals.
The water reduces biodiversity in water. In terms of transmission speed and scale effects, the
water pollution problem concern over soil contamination. Water pollution occurs when
surface water flows through the household waste, waste water industrial pollutants on the
ground, and groundwater seepage.
