Energy Efficient Ships 2015
On the 4th of November the Royal Institution of Naval Architects will host the Energy
Efficient Ships 2015 conference.
The content of this conference will be as follows:
Shipping is one of the most efficient means of transportation for bulk commodities. However,
as part of the global effort to reduce greenhouse gases (GHG) the industry must operate and
run lower emissions-higher energy efficient ships. IMO introduced mandatory standards on
the energy efficiency (EEDI) of the majority of new built vessels and further regulations are
expected to be developed for ship types not already covered. The Energy Efficiency Design
Index and the Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP) has been adopted for
existing ships in an attempt to monitor (Energy Efficiency Operational Indicators -EEOI) and
improve their efficiency.
See more information on the conference. Note: A registration fee is required to attend Energy
Efficient Ships 2015.

Autonomy in Shipping; Onshore in control
On Wednesday 4 November the central theme of the Europort Masterclasses will be
'Leadership through Technology'.
Time: 10.00 pm – 13.30 pm (incl. lunch)
Domino’s recently made headlines with their pizzas being delivered at your doorstep by
drones. Google describes their self-driving car as the realization of a science fiction dream. A
number of examples can be given of autonomous vehicles on land transport. But what about
maritime operations? Autonomous systems and remote control onshore can make operations
more efficient and less expensive. During this Masterclass you will hear the vision of
industry leaders on autonomy in shipping. What are the latest developments? Which
regulatory issues should be overcome? And what is the market potential for autonomy in
shipping?
Click to register for the Masterclasses. Attendance costs per masterclass are € 99,-.

The fourth industrial revolution: Automation in manufacturing
On Wednesday 4 November the central theme of the Europort Masterclasses will be
'Leadership through Technology'.
Time: 14.00 pm – 17.30 pm (incl. networking drinks)
In the fourth industrial revolution smart industry seems to be a buzz word. Systems interact
and decide upon that interaction, while before these decisions were made by people.
Techniques such as 3D printing offer the opportunity to reduce the lead time between design
and production. Moreover, it offers shipping companies the possibility to print spare parts on
board. What do these trends mean for the production process, services and business models of
maritime companies?

CEDA Dredging Days
The Central Dredging Association (CEDA) will be back at Europort 2015 with its flagship
event.
Dredging and the management of sediments are key elements in the sustainable development
and operation of most ports. There is a growing call for them to become greener, more
environmentally aware, and more responsible with regard to operations. Achieving this will
need advanced dredging technology, and a thorough understanding of the natural processes
around ports including the effects of climate change.
The need for more sustainable processes has led to the event's focus on innovative dredging
solutions for ports, and it will present the latest technical and scientific developments. In
addition, CEDA Dredging Days 2015 will cover best practices, relating to maintenance and
capital dredging in ports and access channels, and the management of sediments including the
sediment balance of the broader port environment.
Note: A admission fee is required to attend the CEDA Dredging Days.

Condition Based Maintenance, towards zero down time
On Thursday 5 November the central theme of the Europort Masterclasses will be 'Leadership
through efficiency'.
Time: 10.00 am – 13.30 (incl. lunch)
Predicting systems defects is becoming more and more accurate. Using real-time data to
indicate that equipment is going to fail is a challenge, which is addressed more often, both by
ship owners as suppliers. The ideal is to minimize the system downtime and time and cost
spent on maintenance. In this Masterclass an overview will be given of the newest concepts
for Condition Based Maintenance.

Fuel Strategy, a long term perspective
On Thursday 5 November the central theme of the Europort Masterclasses will be 'Leadership
through efficiency'.
Time: 14.00 pm – 17.30 pm (incl. networking drinks)
In a highly competitive market it’s a challenge to be ahead of competition. Fuel prices
fluctuate, legislation becomes more strict and technology is continuously developing. For
shipping companies it’s essential to keep their fleet future-proof.
Since the 1st of January 2015 all vessels operating in designated Sulphur Emission Control
Areas (so called SECA’s) need to comply with new sulphur regulations. Solutions to comply,
such as cleaner fuels or after treatment methods, are available. In decision-making all options
should be considered, taking into account future developments. In this Masterclass insights
will be given on global marine fuel trends. Furthermore ship owners will be informed on a
tool for retrofitting existing vessels.

providing a free seminar on 5 November to highlight the ongoing requirements when living
with ECDIS following on from implementation. The responsibilities of shipping companies
will be highlighted and discussed with the attendees with questions and comments encouraged
throughout the seminar to make the event interactive
The seminar will be presented by Capt Paul Hailwood who will draw on his extensive

firms start their own in-house academy, aimed at continues learning and development for their
employees. From language course to technical training, the opportunities are endless. In this
Masterclass you will gain a better understanding of sustainable human resource management.
What makes a good employer? What are the do’s and don’ts of an in-house academy? And
