Job context:
The Royal College of Physicians plays a pivotal role as a membership organisation in setting the
standards and through a variety of activities, influencing the quality of medical practice. It conducts
examinations, carries out training, education and research activities and advises the government and
the profession on health and medical matters.

retention of members
Develops membership benefits and services to support the educational and professional
development of physicians, plus personal benefits to compliment the core membership
package
Manages all elements of the members’ journey, from application, to payment, to
membership communications, to development of the benefits packages. This work
includes face to face activities, multi-media material and online facilities
Provides reports and statistics about membership activities
Works closely with RCP and federation departments to support the common aim of
providing a relevant and value for money membership package to today’s physicians
Provides membership-related operational advice and expertise to RCP colleagues.
Purpose and scope:
The post holder will support the engagement and communications officer, membership engagement
manager and head of membership to implement and execute engagement and communications
activities in order to meet RCP targets for membership retention and recruitment, reputation and
revenue. The focus of this role is to support RCP’s engagement with members and fellows worldwide
who span the various levels of a physician’s career – from medical student to retired consultant.
The role includes responsibility for assisting in all areas of the membership engagement and
communications strategy from the conception and development of marketing activities to their
execution. This will specifically include writing accurate and engaging copy for monthly marketing
emails, arranging RCP’s presence (and personally manning the stand) at regular conferences and
careers fairs across the UK, and also looking after various small projects.
The Engagement and Communications Assistant will need to undertake a variety of tasks, both
creative and administrative, relating to all areas of the marketing mix. They must demonstrate a lot of
autonomy, initiative, and have the capability to deal with multiple projects and a deadline driven
workload.

Major
responsibilities:
Communications
 Support and work with the membership engagement coordinator and
Medical careers manager to develop ways to engage and communicate
with prospect and current members
 Write, proof, and edit copy for regular membership marketing emails,
leaflets, web pages, and online content (such as careers profiles) etc.
 Organise, attend and carry out any administration of external and RCP
conferences and events to recruit new members and engage existing
members in the work of the RCP
 Liaise with members and external contacts on a regular basis, such as
conference organisers, maintaining the customer focused and
professional reputation of the RCP
 Ensure that all membership communications are brand and house style
compliant
 Use initiative to lead and take ownership of various other
communications and engagement opportunities as they become
available
Membership benefits and services
 Help strengthen, develop and enhance the RCP membership packages,
including the medical careers resources
 Manage all administrative activities linked to sourcing, securing and
enhancing member benefits
 Edit submitted content, such as the careers profiles, so that they are
ready to post online
Data




Analyse results for activities to determine ROI- looking at online and
event
Assist with various membership data input activities throughout the
year
Coordinate collection and management of member data in line with the
RCP’s obligations under the Data Protection Act 1998
Help manage lists and reports for research and mailing purposes.
Research activities
 Assist with membership research activities: to include surveys,
feedback forms, internal and external benchmarking and focus groups
 Contribute to the development and promotion of the RCP survey panel.
Other
 Support the subscription administration team with incoming calls and
email enquiries
 Any other duties as may be reasonably expected and which are
commensurate with the level of the post.
 Adhere and comply with the provisions of the RCP’s Health and Safety
Policy.
