Job Description
Lead Trainer - Study Programme (Hospitality or Sport)
Job Purpose: To lead on the Study Programme delivery and provide young people aged 16-19 with a
range of opportunities to further their career aspirations. Many of the young people have not excelled
in a mainstream education/ classroom environment and you will provide a nurturing, supportive
environment that builds motivation, confidence, resilience and self belief. Plan and deliver dynamic
programmes of activities that are fun and engaging and build skills for employment. Provide work
experience and develop skills in the vocational disciplines of hospitality and/or sport. Support
participants to complete the programme, achieve qualifications and move into positive activity after the
course.
This will involve 2 (simultaneous) cohorts of 12 learners in the first year. The post holder will also be
responsible for line management of the full time Study Programme Trainer and part time English and
maths tutor.
Responsible to: Business Engagement Manager
Specific Tasks:
Business Performance



Provide the Business Engagement Manager with figures on Study Programme recruitment, starts,
retention, achievements and progressions
Provide accurate, up to date information on learner attendance, reviews and learner progress with
the qualifications in their Individual Learning plans (ILPs)
Ensure that required paperwork is completed accurately and returned within agreed timescales
Learner and Employer Engagement











Achieve good levels of referrals from external agencies by building on existing relationships and
developing new
Develop a Scheme of work (using a provided template) to aid planning for delivery of employability,
vocational skills and embedding maths, English, ICT and social skills
Plan and deliver engaging lessons with a high proportion of active and independent learning
Manage learner enrolment and induction and ensure all learners complete an initial assessment
Agree SMART targets in ILPs and structure delivery to meet individual learner needs
Provide appropriate pastoral support to learners to enable them to achieve and successfully
complete their programme
Plan and deliver appropriate vocational qualifications (Hospitality or Sport) in innovative and
creative ways with hands on and practical challenges
Assess learners work to demonstrate achievement and contribute to moderation in conjunction
with the Internal Verifier
Liaise with the English and maths tutor to ensure that learners are on track and will demonstrate
progression and achieve agreed qualification
Identify sufficient and relevant opportunities for work experience/tasters
Liaise with employers and ensure the work experience for every learner is valuable and meaningful

Coach, guide and encourage learners to give them the necessary skills, motivation qualifications
and knowledge to progress into work, further education or training
Operations

Provide leadership and guidance to learners and with the full support of YMCA Bedfordshire take
responsibility for their Health, Safety and Welfare during all parts of the programme
To produce risk assessments to the required standards prior to the undertaking of all activities and
inform YMCA Bedfordshire of all accidents, incidents and safeguarding concerns and complete
appropriate records
To update and design new course material to reflect learners and funding body requirements
Deliver teaching and learning to young people that is judged to be good or outstanding
Manage programmes effectively to ensure timely achievement of qualifications and progressions
Attend and contribute to exhibitions, forums and events when required to promote the
programmes and services offered by YMCA Bedfordshire
Contribute to consistent management of quality service delivery through the PQASSO methodology
To undertake such duties and responsibilities as may be determined by the YMCA Bedfordshire
from time to time, according to the needs of the business

Person Specification:
Experience & Knowledge:
Essential:
Proven track record of successfully planning and delivering high quality

teaching and learning programmes
Knowledge and experience of the Study Programme
Relevant experience of working in hospitality or sport

Experience of embedding English and maths and measuring learner
progress.
Experience of delivering skills that enhance employability and

administering pastoral support with NEETs
Good understanding of the Ofsted process and framework
Sound understanding of principles relating to health & safety and

safeguarding learners
Qualifications:
Good all round education


Scope and Limits of Authority:

The post holder will be responsible for:

Yes – 1 Study Programme Trainer & part time maths and English tutor

Yes – oversee the Study Programme budget (initially 2 cohorts of learners)
o Assets:
Yes – resources including laptops/ projector etc.
Key Performance Indicators (will be in the following areas):
Performance is measured against a set of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) covering learner
recruitment, retention, progress, unit achievement, timely reviews, qualification achievements and
progressions. Quality is monitored and measured through the YMCA’s comprehensive quality assurance
and improvement arrangements.
