Garbage Container Safety Check It is essential that the Board ensure that garbage containers do not pose an unnecessary risk upon any child who may come in contact with it. As such, the Board must assign a school staff person (custodial) to inspect such containers and report on the findings. The following should be used as a checklist and completed each morning: 1. Type of container: Steel ______ Wood 2. If steel, is it filled from the Top ______ 3. Does the container have a tapered front? ________ 4. Does the container have supporting brackets? __________ 5. Approximate size of container: Large ______ Small ______ 6. Does the container have any sharp surfaces that could injure anyone? __________ 7. Does the container have any protuberances that are likely to injure anyone? __________ 8. If there are any protuberances, are they highlighted with paint to enhance visibility? ___ 9. Does the container have a warning sticker in clear view? _________ 10. Are the doors all securely locked to prevent unauthorized entry? __________ 11. Is the container well emptied each time (ie: is material left in the winter)? _________ Side ______ If the answer to any of the above questions is negative, you must take action to ensure the problem is rectified at the earliest possible opportunity.
