a. Kim Redford

They are upgrading Blackboard to Blackboard 9.1. There are significant
changes. There will be web training for students.

Microsoft Software: University is renegotiating with Microsoft.
Longwood/Dell laptops will no longer come loaded with Microsoft
software. Students will purchase software from journeyEd via the web
and/or Bookstore at a discounted cost. Students will need to bring disks
that ship with laptop.

Portal Replacement: Will replace myLongwood in fall 2011 with
myCampus portal. Their goal is to facilitate registration in October in
the new portal. IITS will work with students to input on the new portal.
myLongwood will be available for a time in the Fall 2011.

Questions? Callie Darling wanted to know what we could do better
about the election process on Blackboard. Another man with Kim said
that with the short time span of doing everything. He is hoping that
everything will be going good by freshman elections next semester. Ben
Brittain wanted to thank Javari for all the election stuff. He wanted to
know if there is a way to run elections through the new portal system.
Before they launch a new system they want to do some testing. Nicolas
Schooley stated that he bought Microsoft 2010 for a cheaper price than
this journeyEd account. Kim stated that it is more expensive, but it is a
reasonable price. Nicolas is saying that it is the same software and
cheaper so they should look into this website. Ashley Cornell was
wondering if this software will be supported by financial aid for students.
Kim says it will be similar to a book purchase at the bookstore and there
will definitely be something implemented. Brandon Fry stated that it
worried him about them letting students know over the summer, but
Kim says that she hopes to get stuff out before the students leave.
b. SFC Report: none
c. Representative of the Week “ROW” Award : Awarded to James Pinc for his

Public Comment

Jillian Katie and Kathy: On behalf of their English 400 project they think that
Longwood should offer a First Aid Certification class for one day for about
$60.00 per student. The benefits are that they are a job requirement. Jessi
Miller stated that Gus Hemmer offers a first aid class that they could look into.
Ben wants to know what they would like the SGA to do. They are hoping we
could partially fund this.

Peter Mancuso: He wanted to talk about the medallion bail out. He knows
there is nothing we can do about it now, but he thinks it is unacceptable.
James Pinc stated that this money will be paid back to the student government.
Peter stated that he would

Sarah Nichols: She wanted to take this opportunity to tell us that they are
having an event called “Keep the Tuition Low” on April 21st at 5p.m. There
will be a petition and ways for students to voice their opinion on the rising
tuition issue.

Kyle Yantis: Kyle saw at an open house that 65% of the freshmen drop out
after their first year. He thinks that we should drop from D1 to D2 and have
the money going where it needs to go. Callie wanted to know if he was in
contact with Tim Perkins. Ben Brittain stated that he doesn’t think his statistics
are incorrect, but we will look into this. Keenan Crump wanted to know how
sports are correlated into this. Kyle stated that a lot of this is here say. We pay
about $2,000.00 to sports stated Ben. Savannah wanted to thank him for
voicing his opinion. Gina is saying that we need to get the right words and
stats out there. Ashley Cornell wanted to say we are a young division school
and independent which means were aren’t in a conference. She believes D1 is
appealing to students. Callie wanted to say to not be afraid to go to faculty
members. Nicolas Schooley stated that he goes back in forth about the
division issue. Being in D1 will alleviate some of the cost.

He is worried that faculty and staff are taking those papers so we are

faculty. Locations are the Greenwood Lib, D-hall, Ruffner and
Chichester.

Bills need to be turned into Ben
b. Committee Reports

questions to let her know. Steven Sommer brought up compatibility.
George Mason is doing their elections through Collegiate Link and we
use that so we could look into this being a new route for elections. Scott
Hull wants to know how vacant positions will be filled. Nick Sneed took
the floor and stated that there were some names that were submitted that
were not in good standing so there will be applications out for that
through Tim Pierson via e-mail. Allie Smith said they just had enough.

good ideas.

start a publicity campaign.

Shannon brought up how the Disabilities Center does not support
Physical Disabilities. Many senators commented on this. Shannon had
issues with the police department and getting rides for a disability. Tim
Pierson spoke on this issue and how the police can definitely help at
night, but not necessarily give rides to students at any point in time.
XI.
Old Business
a. Second Reading of the Medical Amnesty Act of 2011

James’ committee supports this Act. There were a few changes, but they
were mostly wording issues. Gina wants to know how students would know
about this bill. James’ committee noticed this and they say that the student’s
health is important. Callie says our job on the senate to educate. Ben stated
that he will not sign the bill. Jessi wants to know why he will not. Ben stated
that he does not agree with this bill and he will not speak on it. Savannah
wants to know how to educate students on this new issue. She believes it
could be tricky. Callie stated that the bill is not saying anyone can go out and
get drunk and get caught and not get in trouble. James thinks that passing
this legislation shows that we care more about the students. Gina states that
she doesn’t think this is necessary. Tucker wanted a point of clarification.
Tucker feels students should be held accountable for their actions. Scott
wanted to ask about Tim Pierson’s view on this. Tim says we practice this
very practice. There is a mixed opinion on this. Our drug policy is firm and
clear. Tim thinks it’s a good thing to talk about. Peter Mancuso thinks this
is a wonderful bill. Jessi wants a point of clarification. Brandon stated to talk
to him after the meeting if you have anything about repercussions. Ben
Tyree thinks it is good to receive amnesty from Longwood. They will
possibly get in trouble from the town of Farmville which he believes is
punishment enough. Emily moved to make an amendment to remove the
word harsh. This was accepted. She made a motion to approve the Second
Reading of the Medical Amnesty Act. Motion passed.
