Parental Guidance to Behaviour, Success and Achievement at Abbey Hey Primary School Behaviour, Success and Achievement at Abbey Hey Primary School. Rewards At Abbey Hey we want to promote the best possible learning environment for our children to succeed. This can only be done in collaboration with all parents, carers, children and staff. We feel that the behaviour of our children is excellent. However, on occasion some children may be involved in an incident, which requires a sanction. As a school we want to share our expectations with you. We want our children to come to school and share an environment where they will feel valued, safe and secure. To do this we want to promote a positive school experience. To promote a safe, secure positive environment for all, with high standards we as a school have a set of school rules that help us to achieve this. We use lots of praise and incentives to promote good behaviour and learning. In order to achieve this we need everyone to follow our schools’ behaviour policy. (A copy can be ordered at the school office if needed) Abbey Hey offers our children the chance to develop socially, emotionally, physically and academically. This is done by quality first teaching, positivity, experiencing success, delivering a broad and balanced curriculum and a combination of extracurricular activities throughout the year that meet the needs of all children. Smileys, an opportunity for children to receive rewards for having a positive attitude, good behaviour etc. Children are then able to exchange their Smileys at the smiley shop, which the children thoroughly enjoy. Star of the Week certificates are given for many reasons such as showing a good attitude, being helpful and kind around school. Good work certificate, which is presented every week in a special assembly in which parents and carers are invited into school to share success and rewards with children. Attendance awards for consistent good attendance which are given out each Friday in assembly. Star of the term certificates are given to children who have achieved well across the whole term. Star of the year certificates are given to children who are outstanding throughout the year. Sanctions Some of the initiatives we have developed at our school are: Booster classes to help develop literacy and numeracy skills In school Intervention programs to help develop learning Links with the local community Educational visits and trips to enhance learning If however the positives do not work on occasion and some sanctions need to be followed, we take whole school approach on this. 1. 2. Extracurricular activities We all make Abbey Hey a unique place to learn with the highest possible standards for your children. Alongside this we need the continued support of you, our parents and carers to help make this happen. 3. 4. Below is a list of all the activities currently offered. If you have any ideas that might help us develop our school please do not hesitate to let us know. Judo Water Polo Gymnastics Football Creative Club-music and art Football Netball Lacrosse Squash Badminton Dads (carers)& Lads football- (an FA run initiative that the school have been invited to take part in) Verbal warning - If a child persists to do something inappropriate, then he or she will receive a verbal warning. Name on the board – If a child persists with negative behaviour their name will be put on the board, this is to remind them that they have been warned and they will be asked to work alone where they can concentrate more on what they are supposed to be doing. Tick by their name – If they continue to behave inappropriately a tick will be put against their name, they will be asked to go to another class for 15 minutes and a time for reflection. Second tick – After the reflection period they return to their class, however if poor behaviour continues they receive a second tick which will mean they spend 15 minutes in “time out” at lunchtime. On occasion a child might get involved in something more severe, which might need to be dealt with by the Head teacher or a senior member of staff. In which case a letter or a phone call with a parent or carer might be required. But may I stress that this only something that happens on very rare occasions. The utmost effort is made by everyone to create a positive learning environment for all before any of the above sanctions are used. We look forward to hearing from you the parents and carers with any ideas you may have that will enhance all of the positives we already have in our school. Thank you for your support. .
