St. Mary’s School Weekly Bulletin October 15, 2015 “I am the way and the truth and the life, says the Lord; no one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6 Picture Day Monday: Lifetouch will be here Monday, October 19 to take individual student pictures. Students may dress in their school uniforms or better for pictures. If you want your child to change out of their dress clothes after pictures, please send an extra uniform outfit. Lunch is grilled cheese and tomato soup which can get messy, especially for our younger students. Pictures will be taken in the morning before lunch. The NED Show: Students in grades K-5 enjoyed attending The Ned Show at Tomahawk Elementary School today. NED reminds students: Never give up, Encourage others, and Do your best. The show included yo-yo tricks, some magic and a great message about setting goals and what it takes to achieve those goals on the way to becoming a champion. There was no cost for the show due to a “Pay it Forward” program. Another school sold some of Ned’s yo-yos to pay for the show to come to Tomahawk and now Tomahawk Elementary is selling the yo-yos so the show can be done at another school. Order forms were sent home today. To order you can either go directly to the Tomahawk Elementary School’s main office or return the order form with payment to our school office by next Wednesday, October 21. No late sales will be accepted. Home and School News: Candy Bar Sales - If you have unsold candy bars, bring them in to the school office. All we have left is one case of dark chocolate, so if you are having trouble selling off some of your candy, we can distribute it to those who are looking for certain flavors. Executive Committee - To join the executive committee contact Michelle Schiltz at (715) 453-2947 or mschiltz21@gmail.com No School: St. Mary’s students do not have school on Friday, October 23. The teachers will be attending a conference in Rice Lake. The public school students do have school that day. Then, on Monday, October 26 the teachers have an in-service day throughout the district, so there is no school for St. Mary’s and public school students that day either. Enjoy the long weekend! Questions and Comments: Questions, comments, concerns, etc. about the school should be referred directly to the individual involved. If you have a question or concern about the classroom, please address it with the teacher first. If you have questions or concerns about the school, please address them with the principal first. This order should be followed until the question is answered or the situation is resolved: 1. Teacher (Classroom issues) 2. Principal 3. Pastor 4. Superintendent of Schools It is always best to go to the source. Other parents may not be able to answer your questions and the teachers do not always know about things outside of their classroom. Misinformation will only lead to confusion and occasional hard feelings. We welcome your questions and comments as we are always striving to make our school community better. Please know that you are welcome to stop in any time during the school day to talk with the principal or observe in the classroom. BASE Training: All volunteers that work with children are required to be trained in Safe Environment. If you missed the previous training opportunities, please call the school office to schedule a training time. The student Halloween Party is rapidly approaching and all volunteers must be based trained before they can help with the party. Scrip Coordinator Volunteer: Looking for a volunteer opportunity that can have a major impact but can’t volunteer during school hours? We are looking for someone who can take on the role of SCRIP Coordinator. This person would look for new businesses to join the SCRIP program for our school, actively advertise the SCRIP program better, and look for new offerings from the national SCRIP program and implement them. Please contact the school office if this interests you. (715) 453-3542 Fall Rummage Sale: Drop off items for the Fall Rummage Sale at the CCC Friday afternoon. The sale takes place on Saturday, October 17. Proceeds from the rummage sale benefit St. Mary’s School. The more good stuff there is for sale, the more people will buy. Also, don’t forget to come to the sale. There are always some great items that might be just the thing you’ve been wanting. If you can help set up or on the day of the sale, please call the school office. Field Trip Forms: Every time students leave school grounds, a field trip form must be sent home, filled out, and returned to school in order for your child to participate in the field trip. By Diocese of Superior rules, the Field Trip Form must be filled out on both sides for each field trip. Teachers are required to take the forms with them on a field trip so they have all the emergency information at their fingertips in case it is needed. It is a good idea to scan or copy the back page once you have one filled out and simply staple that to each subsequent Field Trip Form. That way you don’t have to keep filling out the same information on the back all the time. Jeans Day: Students may wear jeans to school on any Friday throughout the school year on which there is no Mass. If it is a First Friday Mass, students should wear their school uniforms. If jeans are worn, students should bring a quarter to benefit Our Sisters House. Cold Weather and Flu Season: Colder weather and flu season are on the way. Please make sure students are dressed appropriately for going outdoors each day. Heavier jackets may be needed on some days along with hats and gloves. All students go out for recess. If you feel your child is not feeling well enough to go outdoors, then please do not send them to school. Flu Shots: Lincoln County is holding a flu clinic in the CCC on Sunday, October 18 after the 11:00 Mass. Stop in to get a flu shot and protect yourself this season.
