Polk School District E.A.T.S Lesson Plan(s) Teacher: Karen Little Standard(s) Subject/Class: Science/ 5th Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday S5E1.Students will identify surface features of the Earth caused by constructive and destructive processes. A) Identify surface features caused by constructive: deposition, earthquakes, volcanoes, faults B) …destructiv e processes: erosion, weathering, earthquake, volcano S5E1.Students will identify surface features of the Earth caused by constructive and destructive processes. A)Identify surface features caused by constructive: deposition, earthquakes, volcanoes, faults B)…destructive processes: erosion, weathering, earthquake, volcano EQ: Explain how weathering, erosion and deposition each change Earth’s crust. EQ: Explain how weathering, erosion and deposition each change Earth’s crust. EQ: Explain how Earth will continue to change over the next thousand years. Essential Question/ EQ: How do Learning Goal Week Of: Aug.24-28 EQ: Are volcanoes affect the earthquakes land around them? considered destructive or constructive, or Polk School District E.A.T.S Lesson Plan(s) both? How is an earthquake’s energy measured? What is a tsunami? Activating Strategy: Use volcano app to Lesson Opener, Warm-up, Hook fly over volcano having a gentle eruption.(apple tv and my ipad) Teaching Read together pp.154-158. Learn the types of volcanoes and what the effects are on the surroundings. Complete a checkup on volcano vocabulary. Write the EQ and explain in Science notebooks. Those finishing early will complete “what’s shaking” sheet. Strategies: Procedures, Technology, Performance Tasks Show how plates can slip and create an earthquake. Discuss a fault and show pictures. Show a pan of dirt and rocks and pour water on it and see the changes.(erosion) Hold up a round rock. Ask how it got so smooth.(weathering) Show a picture of the Mississippi delta.(deposition) Show video clips on OLC on Smartboard. Learn to identify each example of erosion, weathering or deposition. Show Brain Pop videos on weathering and erosion. Watch video clips on my OLC and discuss. Read textbooks pp.164168.In science notebook, write the EQ and answer. Show a tsunami clip. Have a group to work with teacher on vocabulary from yesterday’s voc. Checkup data. Read text pp.176181. Write the definitions for weathering, erosion and deposition in notebooks and draw an example for each. Read article on How water changes Earth, and answer the questions. Watch the Scholastic study jams on these concepts.(erosion, weathering, and deposition) Glue pictures of each in notebooks and label them correctly. (checkup) Discuss the three main agents of erosion and weathering and fill in the graphic organizer. Polk School District E.A.T.S Lesson Plan(s) Summarizing Strategies: Closing Activity Assessment/ Evaluation Have some students Ask how many read their answers think earthquakes aloud. can be constructive, destructive or both. Review the meanings of the 3 main concepts. Show pictures on Smartboard and have students identify: weathering, erosion, or deposition Have students name the most powerful agent of erosion (water) Name 3 others. EQ answer Check the 3 definitions in notebook. Grade the checkup in notebook. Graphic organizer EQ answer in notebook will be checked.
