JOB DESCRIPTION POST Chair In Antimicrobial Chemotherapy and Resistance REFERENCE REPORTS TO Director LSTM ROLE PURPOSE/SUMMARY This position is suitable for clinical or non-clinical candidates with an international reputation for excellent research in the area of antimicrobial chemotherapy and resistance. We are looking for candidates with a clear translational focus who would take the leadership role in developing this area of activity within LSTM. Specific areas of interest could be laboratory, hospital or field based. The successful candidate would be expected to have a vibrant current research portfolio and would be responsible for expanding our AMR strategy supported by a multidisciplinary team of scientists based in LSTM and its overseas collaborations. LSTM provides an excellent environment to support research in this area. Our current facilities include category 22 category III pathogen containment facilities, including a Cat III imaging platform with FACS and confocal microscopy, an LCMS bioanalytical suite, medicinal chemistry laboratories, molecular biology and proteomic laboratories, robotic high content imaging and high throughput screening facilities. In 2017 we will be expanding our laboratory base with the opening of a new purpose built facility to accommodate research focused on antimicrobial resistance. The successful candidate will join an institution with a research profile that encompasses activities from early stage discovery through to implementation science. Work with and lead academics in LSTM in developing cutting edge capacity for research. Assist LSTM in further expansion of research and capacity building. To participate in programmes and policy discussions to mitigate the risk of antimicrobial resistance in UK and globally. Articulate and deliver academic vision and leadership within the area of antimicrobial chemotherapy and resistance that is international in scope. Lead, manage and mentor a team of senior academic and business support staff, overseeing delegated areas of responsibility. Manage staff and financial resources for programme activities, effectively allocating workloads across the team. Proven continuous professional development at appropriate level. Extensive knowledge of subject area informed by substantial current research in the field Demonstrable knowledge of the pedagogical and quality assurance principles underlying effective learning, teaching and assessment and their effective application in the widest sense Knowledge of strategic leadership principles and their effective application in a HEI setting Demonstrate an understanding of global factors affecting the discipline and work of an institute such as LSTM Experience Active research programme in antimicrobial chemotherapy and resistance Proven experience of effective curriculum development and making a significant contribution to teaching and learning strategy Evidence of established international reputation in academic field. Outstanding record of international level peer reviewed original publications and research. Strong record of successfully generating significant/high prestige external funding (grants, contracts etc.) to support research projects. Proven record of research leadership and experience of developing multidisciplinary research programmes (including stakeholders from academia, industry, MOH etc. for example). Experience of initiating, planning, organizing, implementing and delivering major programmes of work of strategic organizational-wide benefit. Considerable leadership and management experience, including the effective use of resources and budgetary responsibility and evidence of the capacity to assume further, major leadership roles within and outside LSTM.
