Research Projects 2012 to present:
U19 grant funded by NIH/NIEHS “Gulf Coast Health Alliance: Health Risks Related to the
Macondo Spill (GC-HARMS)”, which involves PETROGENIC POLYCYCLIC AROMATIC
HYDROCARBONs (PAHs) ANALYSES OF MARINE SPECIES AFTER THE DEEP WATER
HORIZEN OIL SPILL. Performed Extraction of the PAH’s was performed using the
QUACHERs/dsPE extraction method and make sure samples ready for analysis using a Gas chromatography-Mass spectrometry
“Dissecting the mechanisms of Alcoholic liver disease" Funded by John Sealy Memorial
Endowment Fund for Biomedical Research
My role in this project was to measure Blood Alcohol Levels in Rat Blood samples by Head space Gas Chromatography, FID, measuring Fatty acid Ethyl esters which are the biomarkers of Liver disease caused by alcohol abuse, using GC-FID, GC/MS instruments and report results to Supervisor.
“Hepatic Steatosis and Lipid Metabolome" funded by NIH R01, AA016364, NIH, National
Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, My role in this project is to perform TLC on mouse tissue, and measure Fatty acid ethyl esters by GC-FID, GC/MS.
Effects of BisphenolA(BPA) on ASTHMA PATHOGENESIS, This project focuses on the important topic of a potential new environmental contributor to the epidemic of childhood asthma.My role in this project was to develop analytical method to detect BPA in blood samples of infants, young children, I worked on method develoment using GC/MS
Establishes and oversees quality control measures for assigned project operations.
Makes modification to research procedures as determined by Principal
Investigator. Providing guidance to junior research staff.
Responsibilities include the forensic analysis of blood and other body fluids for the presence of drugs and other toxic substances using Gas chromatography/Mass spectrometry.
Preparing legally defensible reports from GC/MS, providing testimony in court of law when needed.
Received appropriate training to perform analysis on competency or proficiency tests and performed toxicology analysis on case work for DWI, DRE, DFSA & OMI cases to identify drugs of abuse which utilizes standard established procedures.
Analysis of Controlled substances in Blood and Urine samples which includes Opiates,
Cocaine, Morphine, Heroin, Keto Opiates which includes Hydrocodone, Oxycodone,
Cannabinoids (THC) Using GC/MS, Drug analysis of Biological fluids for the presence of toxins. Solid phase extraction of drugs in Biological fluids, report toxicology results in
Laboratory Information systems (LIMS).
Provided testimony in Magistrate, Municipal courts in New Mexico which involves explaining toxicology results to attorneys, jury.
