Education Development
Job Purpose:
 Day to day support and oversight of ECS teaching and project laboratories to ensure equipment
and resources are used safely and accurately.
 Student technical guidance and assistance for laboratory exercises enhancing the existing
specialist support provided.
 To provide electronics build/expertise for project students maintaining and increasing the current
high standard student support experience.
Key Accountabilities/Primary Responsibilities (6-10 bullet points maximum)

Managing and maintaining the specialised project areas.
Day-to-day managing of MakerSpace. Managing laboratory space and
requirements of students and staff alike. Oversight of equipment functionality
and anomalies by the means of analysis and the capability to rectify when
required. The maintenance and upkeep of a safe and risk free environment.

Provision of specialised technical advice and guidance for ECS student projects
incorporating direction of students in best practices, component advice and
problem solving with special attention to 3D printing, laser-cutting, auto pickand-place and PCB equipment.

Assembly, regular testing and issuing of the specialised laboratory kits and
equipment that are used by ECS students on a daily basis thus improving the
reliability, repeatability and overall quality of the laboratory sessions. Includes
functional testing of workstation PC’s.

All of the above functions in the context of an awareness of Health and Safety
issues. Such issues are addressed proactively and extend primarily to equipment
issued to staff and students, laboratory practices and the general laboratory
environment, together with the monitoring of student activities within these
areas.

Maintain appropriate levels of laboratory consumables for all teaching project
laboratories.



Support and guidance for ECS students in all aspects of their laboratory/project experience
whilst undertaking their programmes of study.

Assistance to ECS academics for the provision of student laboratory/project supervision and
technical expertise.

Member of the Technical support team working in unison to provide a high quality experience
for all ECS students.

Appointee will be assigned a senior colleague (Senior electronics Technician) to guide their
development and aid their integration into ECS and the University and will be expected to
undertake appropriate training.

Technical and supervisory duties will be allocated by ECS Senior Teaching Fellow within the
context of the laboratory programmes.

Liaise with outside suppliers re: products/quality and procurement of equipment and/or
services.
