Course Description
This course provides an introduction to methods of statistics, including the following topics: sampling, frequency
distributions, measures of central tendency, graphic representation, reliability, hypothesis testing, confidence
intervals, analysis, regression, estimation, and applications. Probability, permutations, combinations, binomial
theorem, random variables, and distributions may be included.
As preparation for standardized tests, and trimester exams, we will review topics throughout the year. Students
are expected to keep complete, thorough notebooks. More information will be given in class in regard to
notebooks.

Expectations of students: Acting Responsibly
1. Come to class everyday with all necessary materials:
a. Math binder/folder with loose-leaf
b. Sharpened PENCILS - only pencils will be allowed for assessments.
c. Elementary Statistics textbook
d. Graphing calculator – TI-83 or TI-84 is recommended
e. Homework
f. Agenda
2. Be on time. “On time” for this class means that you are sitting in your assigned seat, with all
materials or handouts, working on the “Do Now” at the start of class. You will be marked late for
anything else.
3. Complete all homework, class work, and read the text as assigned. Take notes and ask
questions. The experience that you take away from this class is entirely up to you; you are the only
one who can take ownership of your learning. The grade you receive is the grade you earn. If you
need assistance with the course or need to be challenged, use your resources and let us know!
Incomplete or late homework can be completed and turned in for up to half credit.

Expectations of students: Behavior
All students should follow the Code of Conduct at all times. A violation of the code, disturbance to the
learning environment, possession of an electronic device, or inappropriate behavior for school will result in an
appropriate consequence in accordance with the student handbook.
Grading Breakdown:
Each assignment will have a specific point value, and the categories will be weighted as follows for the quarter and
for the year, respectively:

 Trimester exams will include content from each individual trimester and will not be cumulative for the
year. Exams will be in the following windows: 1st Trimester – 11/11/15-11/13/15, 2nd Trimester – 3/2/163/4/16, 3rd Trimester – Seniors 6/1/16-6/3/16, Juniors 6/10/16-6/14/16.
 Collegiate Academy students who earn 90% every trimester and on the 1st and 2nd trimester exams are
exempt from the 3rd trimester exam.
Expectations of students: Attendance
 Students are responsible for all missed learning and making up missed work or assignments.

 Missed work must be completed in the same number of days as the length of the absence, up to a maximum of
one week.
 After the allowed amount of make up days, the assignments will be marked as a ZERO. Tests and quizzes must
be taken either that day the student returns or the next day.

This book must either be returned to school in the same condition it was given or paid for in full at a price
of $98,
High expectations are required for a successful mathematical experience. To meet these expectations,
