GROUP WORK: ORDERS OF MAGNITUDE AND ENERGY
The first trimester you have done a theoretical and experimental work in order to
understand metric system and measurement. The objective of this project is to use your
knowledge of the orders of magnitude and practice the investigation, preparation and presentation
process of a scientific subject (from the Atom to the Universe).
After creating groups of 4 students, the steps of the project for the following 4 weeks are:
► to collect information from the internet, dictionaries, books or magazines,
► to prepare a written report (2 pages maximum by group),
► to give an oral presentation of 10 minutes by group.
The suggested subjects are the followings:
Group 1: Atom, atomic and nuclear structure, Periodic Table
Group 2: Molecule, molecular structure, chemical bonding
Group 3: DNA, human cells
Group 4: Microscope (optical, electron, scanning), applications
Group 5: The Planet Earth and its atmosphere, greenhouse effect
Group 6: Solar System (Planets and moons)
Group 7: The Milky Way Galaxy, other Galaxies
Group 8: Space Telescopes and Space Missions
Group 9: Fuel Cells and Hydrogen
Group 10: Renewable Energies
