Digby & Dunston St Peter’s Church of England Primary School Federation Executive Headteacher: Mr G Boyall Digby Church of England Primary School is set in the heart of the village and at present has 95 children on roll. Dunston St Peter’s is set on the edge of the village and at present has 93 children on roll. Both schools are set in idyllic rural areas and adjoin open countryside. We cater for children from the ages of 4 to 11 in each school. We have worked together as a successful collaboration of two similar primary schools since the Summer Term 2009, sharing the same Headteacher. In September 2013 we became a formal federation, with one governing body over the two schools, retaining the same Executive Headteacher. The Federation is wonderful for both schools as it opens up a wealth of learning opportunities for the children beyond what either school are able to offer as one small, rural school. The staff and children in both schools work closely together, sharing expertise and resources, ideas, events, visits, workshops, etc. In January 2010, Digby was delighted to receive a very strong “Good” Ofsted report. Dunston was inspected by Ofsted in June 2012 and was graded as “Good” overall and “Outstanding” in terms of Behaviour and Safety. Both schools houses a library, school hall and four classrooms, with an Interactive Whiteboard and computers in each class. ICT is mainly taught using wireless laptops and i-pads. Each school have playgrounds, sports field, foundation stage outdoor play area and gardening areas. Digby’s spacious grounds also allow for a wildlife area, amphitheatre and willow structure, whilst Dunston include a trim trail too. Each school accommodates a flexible learning approach as appropriate to the needs of individuals, small groups or whole classes. Dunston School offers a Breakfast Club each morning, whilst Digby School offer After-School Childcare until 6pm each evening. Digby Village Pre-school also reside within Digby’s premises daily, whilst a private day care nursery resides in Dunston Village. Both schools offer lots of extra-curricular activities after school. Both of our schools are Church of England Primary Schools and share the same values and aims, which we believe creates a strong basis for our successful and exciting Federation. In effect this means that Mr Boyall is the Executive Headteacher of both schools and he shares his time between them. This enables him to focus on developing the schools further in terms of leadership and management. Each school has a Deputy Headteacher who lead the school when Mr Boyall is off-site.
