To undertake research within the EU FP7 Research Programme SenseOcean, principally testing, validation and deployment of carbonate and nutrient sensors, and associated data analysis.

Undertake testing and validation of carbonate chemistry and nutrient sensors in the laboratory. This will involve comparison with measurements made using conventional laboratory instrumentation. Deploy and test sensors in the field on research cruises and other deployment opportunities.
Carry out data analyses to (1) determine the precision and accuracy of measurements, (2) provide environmental interpretation of sensor measurements
Disseminate findings by taking the lead in preparing manuscripts for submission to refereed journals and presenting results at conferences.
Collaborate with, and provide advice to, other consortium members.

Carry out administrative tasks, including risk assessments, organisation of project meetings and sensor deployment logistics.

Support the research of postgraduate students and contribute to occasional undergraduate supervision, demonstrating or lecturing duties.

Criteria Essential
Qualifications, knowledge & experience
Planning & organising
PhD in (Marine or Environmental)
Chemistry or Ocean or Earth
Science
Experience in measuring carbonate chemistry, nutrient and trace metals in oceanic samples
Experience in Labview, Matlab or other instrument control, data and data treatment software packages
Familiarity with and competence in relevant statistical and data handling techniques
Knowledge of oceanography, ocean carbon, trace metal and nutrient cycles
Ability to work unsupervised for short periods (days to weeks).
Proactive time management and meeting deadlines.
